Apollo - Quick Takes

Apollo Customer Support

Support is slow compare to other Sales solutions. Bit disappointing that they don't have live chat on the dashboard.  They do have good support docs & video learning material.

Choosing Apollo

The main reason for me choosing Apollo for my business was that it seemed to have one of the biggest databases of my target audience (other tech companies). I also liked the email sheduling functionality & the ability to create cold email sequences.

Integrations We Use

Apollo Usability

The UI is simple for a complex product, but the learning curve is steep when setting upthe CRM. Video tutorials are helpful but sometimes confusing due to separate settings for manyfeatures.

The Apollo Review

Why We Chose Apollo:
When I was searching for the right platform for my business, Apollo stood out for one main reason: its massive database. For a company like mine, targeting other tech companies, it’s an absolute goldmine. Add in the email scheduling functionality and the ability to create cold email sequences, and I was sold.

Database Accuracy:
The database has been excellent. Honestly, it feels like they’ve specialized in tech company contacts, which makes my life a lot easier. I rarely run into outdated information, which is a huge win.

Email Scheduling & Sequences:
The sequence feature is good—don’t get me wrong—but it’s not without its headaches. I did run into a spam warning from Gmail, which forced me to pull back my daily sends. If you’re planning to use Apollo for heavy outbound, I’d recommend setting up multiple email addresses. Deliverability can be hit or miss. I’ve had a few clients tell me we hit their spam folder, so it’s something to keep an eye on.

Integration:
We've integrated HubSpot with Zapier to automate the push of deals into the CRM. Additionally, we use Apollo for lead generation, which seamlessly feeds targeted leads into HubSpot. This integration has been crucial for streamlining our lead management process.

Deliverability Tools:
They do have a warm-up tool, which we used, but even that didn’t prevent the spam warning. Their analytics aren’t great, either. If deliverability is a major concern for you, Apollo might not give you all the tools you need to optimize.

Usability:
Apollo’s interface is easy to navigate, but I’ll admit that the list creation feature was confusing at first. It took me a couple of videos and some trial and error to really get comfortable with the “Discover Contacts” feature. Once I got the hang of it, though, it’s been smooth sailing.

Integrations:
I’ve integrated Apollo with HubSpot CRM and my custom-built solution. The HubSpot integration was a breeze—I had it set up in about 20 minutes. The API for my custom solution took a little longer, about two days, but the documentation was clear and straightforward. No major issues there.

Customer Support:
Support is done via email, and responses usually take about 24 hours. While the team is helpful, the lack of live chat from the dashboard is disappointing. When you’re in the middle of a workflow and need quick answers, waiting a day for a response can feel like forever.

Pricing:
Pricing is competitive compared to similar solutions. We’re currently spending $427 per month, and for what we get, it feels like decent value.

Results:
Apollo has become a core part of our lead generation strategy. Since we started using it, we’ve been able to grow our outbound sales motion significantly. It’s an essential tool in our stack.

The Bigger Picture:
One thing I’ve noticed is that Apollo seems to be moving toward becoming a CRM. Personally, I’m not thrilled about this direction. I’d rather see them focus on improving their outbound sales features. For example, it would be amazing if they added a call notes feature like what Fathom and Otter offer. That would be a game-changer.

Who Should Use Apollo.io?
If you’re in B2B sales, Apollo is 100% worth considering. It’s especially great for teams looking to scale their outbound efforts. Just be prepared to do a little extra work to manage deliverability and get the most out of it.
The Conclusion

Apollo.io isn’t perfect, but it’s a solid tool that’s made a big impact on our sales motion. If you’re a B2B sales team, it’s definitely worth checking out. Just know that there’s a bit of a learning curve and a few areas where it could improve. Overall, I’d recommend it in a heartbeat.
