Can''t beat it
For the price I don''t think this laptop can be beaten. Spec is dominant over any other laptop out there at this price and the styling easily competes with the like of Alienware et al. My mate just bought a M15X for £950 and it has equal gaming credentials along with 64 bit capability, but when it comes to the media aspect such as screen quality, hard drive space, optical drive then the Samsung wipes the floor with it. Its bigger, brighter and better to look at.
I was originally drawn to the alienware due to the level of publicity it gets, but this is only because it is sold directly as a gaming laptop and so came up in more of my searches. Upon investigation I came to learn that there is a real premium with the alienware as you''re paying for the brand and the custom build and custom lighting. This is really dependant on where you find value for money, there is no extra time taken building the alienware, it is still subject to the manufacturing conveyor belt process, but the time is all to give you a colourfull keyboard? I''d rather take the hardware benefits and go with a solid reputable manufacturer such as Samsung and fly under the radar.
Put both these laptops on your HD telly via HDMi and you''ll make up your mind there and then.
Bottom line is, if you value gimmicks and want to look cool the 3 or 4 times you take your laptop out in public then go for the alienware. If you value good value, hardware and subtle but sleek design then the Samsung is for you. This really is the only fighting ground these laptops share.
