A real handful

I have been the proud owner of a Nikon d80 for a while now and still love it. I was seduced by the idea of upgrading to the professional level d300s but had a real struggle rationalising the extra expense as an amateur user.I finally bit the bullet in January 2010 and bought the camera. It took me a little while to read through the user manual but the effort was well spent time. The camera is not for the faint-hearted as it offers a real handful of customisable settings but the more familiar I became with the menus, the less inhibited I was about experimenting with all the available options. My wife and I have just returned from a holiday in the USA where I used the d300s in earnest for 2 weeks and took well in excess of 1000 photos. The results are absolutely stunning and good though my d80 is, the d300s is a true quantum leap forward! Even the onboard video facility which is widely held as not great was a very useful adjunct to a "stills" man in those unmissable action packed moments. For anyone who has a hankering for a truly high quality dslr and who has a working knowledge of the principles of photographic practice this camera must be very high in their list of candidates. My only problem now is deciding whether I can justify the expense of improving my lens collection to enhance even further the quality of output of this great piece of equipment! Be warned-ownership can be addictive! I am looking forward to learning more and more about this device as time goes by and am quite sure that as more experience is acquired the results will become even better still.
