The Sony Bravia KDL-40E5 has to be one of the best TVs of 2009, its not only got excellent full HD picture quality thanks in part to Sony latest Bravia processing engine but also and maybe more impresively manages to do this while only consuming the same amount of power as you would expect form a average 22 inch LCD TV. The power consumption of the KDL40E5 is just 97W while it's in use.

There are two unique ways in which Sony have managed to get the comsumption so low without reducing the TVs qicture quality firstly the backlight system uses Hot Cathode Fluorescent lamps (HCFLs) instead of the normal Cool Cathode Fluorescent lamps (CCFLs). The second technology used is the introduction of a Presence Sensor which uses body heat and motion to see if anyone is in the room (bit big brother), the TV will then turn the picture off, just leaving the sound running if it detects the room is empty. When it detects you have re-entered the room, the picture comes back on. Brilliant hey!.

The Sony KDL-40E5 is a big step forward and hopefully will make other manufactures think about there energy usage. Well done Sony you deserve a pat on the back.
