A review of the Philips 42PES0001 Essence LCD TV
|
The Essence 42PES0001 LCD TV from Philips was launched earlier this year and differentiates itself from other TV's due to the connectivity hub that is separate from the TV and sits just below it. This is connected by a single cable to prevent clutter and to keep things minimal. It looks great and is super slim with a depth of only 38mm. As you can guess it looks great wall mounted and has a super thin frame so the emphasis is kept to the image itself.

As we mentioned, the Philips Essence TV has a separate hub which sits just below the screen and powers the TV with one single cable which is not even seen as it sits behind the adjoining bezel. A Perfect Pixel HD Engine is included to provide a natural image with precise details from each and every pixel. A HD Ready 1080p resolution ensures that only exceptional high quality images are displayed. Blu-ray images will be displayed at HD at this resolution too. Perfect Natural Motion provides smoother and sharper images by eliminating image judder and blur. A 17-bit colour booster creates a spectrum of colours in every scene along with natural skin tones and shades. A 66,000:1 contrast ratio ensures that blacks are rich and detailed while the DLNA PC network link keeps you connected.

| Performance |

We were, undoubtedly, impressed with the design of the Philips 42PES0001 LCD TV especially once it was hung on the, included wall bracket. The wall bracket is super easy to hang and even if its not hung straight you can alter the position of the TV once it is up. Images were displayed brilliantly and it is unusual for Philips to disappoint in this respect. Blacks were good, colours well reproduced and images sharp and crisp. 24p playback was ok, but not as impressive as we have seen on other models and if movie watching is your thing and you must have the ultimate image, it maybe better to concentrate on this with your search. However, that said, images are displayed very well in every other aspect.

| Overall Opinion |
| It may be on the pricey side, but with so many impressive features packed in and an innovative design with a super slim depth, we think its worth digging deep for. |
