A review of the Nintendo DSi

The design of the new Nintendo DSi is very similar to the previous Nintendo DS Lite although it has the camera added and is 12% thinner than the DS Lite. It has a matt finish this time around so feels more secure as you hold it compared to the glossy DS Lite. Although it does tend to get scratched and scraped much easier than the glossy version. The power button has been moved to front next to the screen rather than at the side and the screens are 17% bigger.
Features
The features have been upgraded on the Nintendo DSi and it now has two 3MP cameras, one on the front and one on the back and images are saved to the 16GB internal memory or an SD card. The on screen software is slightly different to the DS lite version and has a bar across the screen which shows you the options available. The camera option also includes lots of fun features where you an alter people's appearance by adding glasses or giving them different eyes or even squashing their face. Their are eleven different lenses which allows you to take images with frames, graffitti etc and there is also an option to upload to Facebook. There are also 12 sound filters, so you can record your voice and alter it to sound completely different or slow down a song to learn the words or learn to play along with the instruments. The possibilities are endless. You can also store your favourite tracks creating your own personal MP3 player.
Performance
The Nintendo DSi is a lot of fun. Although we loved the DS Lite, there is so much more to do with the DSi and it is very entertaining so very suitable as a Christmas present for example. The camera and sound recording options work really well and although the images from the camera wouldn't be too great if printed, they are fine to look at on the lo resolution screen, and play around with. It works very much like an MP3 player too and has similar features to the iPods, such as shuffle and create a playlist to play in order. The DSi can be closed shut so you can listen on the go.
Overall Opinion
We think the DSi is a great all round entertainment centre. It is very portable, plays music, plays games, takes images and has great fun features. It is priced competitively with rivals such as the PSP-Go for example.
