Hotpoint FF4DX

Hotpoint FF4DX

Reviews

Marks around door handles and poor service from Hotpoint and Argos.

It appears hotpoint have another emerging problem with the Quadrio. As Laura has mentioned in her review our Quadrio also has marks around ALL the door handles. Two of the these doors were replaced only in May 2011 one due to the door wire fault and the other duie to these marks. The engineer at the time confirmed the marks were due to the laquer peeling from behind the handles. These marks first appeared when it was just 18 months old and have reappeared on the replacement doors within 6 months. We have decided to return the unit for a refund as there is a quality issue. The Sale of goods act states that items should be of satisfactory quality.Consumer direct/trading standards are now involved and a case is now open.I will also be contacting Watchdog as a number of people have now noticed these marks.Hotpoint deny there is an issue.Ours is the FF4DX which is the STAINLESS steel finish or at least it should be.
ProsCons
nonestainless steel finish. noise. hotpoint customer care.

meant to add this

i also meant to add that when we gave the serial number of our quadrio, we were told that the serial number we gave were not in the batch that are meant to be faulty. so this must be an even bigger problem than hotpoint 1st realised.

yet another quadrio gone pop

our quadrio was bought in sept 2010. not exactly the cheapest fridge freezer on the market, but we liked the unusual style of it. How i wish we hadnt now. The fridge part has suffered excessive condensation since it was new and needed wiping down every single day, and there has been a mark around the handle of the fridge part that has grown more and more noticeable the more i tried to clean it. Not good when you have bought a fridge as it looked pretty. The surface of the fridge is actually now peeling away. 2 days ago, i opened the left hand door for it to explode, spark and smoke in exactly the same way as everyone else''s on here. Me and my daughter were plunged into darkness as it tripped all of the electric. I didnt know how to rectify this so had to wait until hubby came home. I am convinced that this would have happened a long time ago if we had used the left door more often. We have lost all of the food inside and have got to wait 5 days for the engineer to come out to us. I am not happy that we have not automaticaly been offered a refund for lost food and that we have got to wait that long for the engineer. We are not happy to accept a repair and are going to ask for a replacement. i will never buy hotpoint again and am disgusted.

I''''ve had the same problems as everyone else with the left side fridge door! We purchased this 14 months ago and on the 21st of December I opened the door to a spark and some smoke and on closer inspection the wires on the left door are all exposed and cut through. I phoned hotpoint who arranged an appointment for someone to replace the fridge door on the 28th. The repair man turned up and had been given no information on what was wrong with my fridge and had no new replacement door as no one from hotpoint had bothered to order one! He had a look at the fridge and could only confirm what i had already discussed with hotpoint, we need a new door. On calling hotpoint back to ask when I could expect my new door and repair I was informed they have none in stock and have no idea when they will have any! I was promised a return phone call within 48 hours, but no one has bothered to call me back! Hotpoint have completely dropped in my estimations, selling fridges they quite clearly know have design flaws, and trying to justify this as being okay and very poor customer services.
ProsCons
Everything.

Death trap fridge

Do not buy a hotpoint FF4DX it is a dangerous and lethal fridge freezer. This morning my husband opened the door and the fridge exploded with a very loud band, flash of sparks and smoke. The electrics all went off in the house. We are furious. Hotpoint have known about this fault for ages but are doing nothing to prevent people being injured, not to mention the in convenience of being without a fridge. We have three children and so have had to waste our money buying a mini fridge to keep milk etc in for them. As it is new years eve, happy new year hotpoint, we have to wait till Tuesday to speak to their Special Project department ie exploding fridge dpt. to repeat our complaint for the fourth time. An engineer is booked for wed pm but there is no way we are keeping that fridge.
ProsCons
Looks. we wish we hadn''t liked the look of it now as that is it''s only good point, but now I can''t bear to even look at it!Everything

Hotpoint Quadrio

This site has been a great help! Bought this fridge freezer 2 or 3 years ago and last night the electric in the house cut out. So after getting the electric back on i went to check the appliances that are always on to make they were still working. The quadrio wasn''t, so I looked online to see if i could fix the problem and found this site. Low and behold, the cable has worked apart and was black from were it had fried itself. Its the 23rd of december, fridge broke on the 22nd, engineer due on 28th! I asked if they could just give me a replacement fridge as judging from comments online, fixing the fridge can take weeks. nope, got to have an engineer visit first. How can this be low risk? If a toy had an electrical cable that exposed itself then the toy would be recalled and taken off the shelves. Hotpoint clearly put profit before customers and safety. I wonder how many Hotpoint employees own a quadrio? £160 worth of food bought for Christmas, £40 worth salvageable, £120 worth spoiled. It probably wouldn''t annoy me as much if it wasn''t a design fault that was known to them! Thanks Hotpoint

Serious Fault

Yesterday evening my (pregnant) wife opened the left hand door, and it went ''bang'' and died. To anybody thinking of purchasing this model, please watch the BBC watchdog report from October this year. (just google Watchdog Hotpoint). I am now going to be investigating as to why no information of this fault was distributed to people who had purchased this faulty model, either by Hotpoint or by major retailers ( who would all almost certainly have a record of every customer). That would have enabled Hotpoint to fix all faulty models before they failed. My wife; upset and distressed, Me; frustrated and angry, Total contents of fridge/freezer, 2 weeks before christmas; in the bin.
ProsCons
Looks nice, and is just the right size for my kitchen. Not being recalled despite having a serious design flaw.

We bought this model after reading reviews on other web sites (however at the time it was a comparatively new model) 2 days out of warranty the door started smoking and the freezer went off. After arguing with Hotpoint the left hand door was replaced with a modified one as the wire coming out of it had worn out.Now a further 18 months later the fridge has gone off with 2 loud cracks. After reading reviews on this site I have contacted Hotpoint, now indeset and they have agreed to send an engineer out free of charge as they are aware off problems with this model. I will keep you informed of outcome

Major issues

I am on my second Quadrio because otpoint replaced the first after replacing the motherboard three times. It constantly overproduces frost. Once it cooked everything in the fridge. It is a badly designed piece of very poor equipment, don''t waste your money. I have had to biy another more reliable fridge freezer. This one is heading for the scrap yard.

HOTPOINT QUADRIO fridge freezer

Like others we had this product for over a year before it went bang one evening, wondering what the problem was, i googled the model to find this site- a godsend, as we phoned hotpoint (indesit) and explained we knew about the design fault, we were passed to a special team who sent us an engineer to replace the door and a £50 voucher for sainsburys (I had to ask for this). Engineer replaced the door and PCB board -all started working for ? about two day -then fridge warmed up --called hotpoint who sent out engineer, who then needed to order a part --so another 10 days went by and then after he had replaced the part --fridge still not working --basically 5 weeks with no fridge-called Hotpoint who offerred me a discount voucher for a new one ---you must be joking was my answer ----a new appliance will be delivered next week---be firm, stick to your guns--and thank heavens for sites like this --

Rubbish!

I have had nothing but trouble with our fridge but was put off complaining after the 1st year because it was out of warranty. It keeps warming up, wasting food, the doors tarnish really easy, my house has been short circuited several times, I ahve had shocks from it. The latest problem has been outstanding for 3 weeks now and I have a 1 year old in the house and I am not able to get her fresh veg & cheese etc without going out to eat, its disgusting, We paid over £700 for our fridge, i wish I had bought one of those £99 ones! Complain to Watchdog, Dont get done with Dom, Consumer Direct etc Hotpoint should be contacting every customer that this fridge was bought by and replacing the equipment because even when its repaired, there will be a time when they stop repairing them and it will never last as long as it should. DONT BUY ONE

Another one goes POP!

I''ve had my fridge freezer for about 18 months and had exactly the same thing happen - opened the fridge door, the light came on and then the whole thing went bang. Smoke was coming out the back for ages and I lost all the fridge contents. I explained what had happened when I rang Hotpoint, and they were helpful enough although it took 4 days for the engineer to come. When he did, even though he knew what the problem was, he hadnt brought any of the parts to do the repair with him and had to order them in, which took another 8 days. So, I had to take another day off work and wait in again, this time the engineer replaced the door, wiring and circuit board. After 3 hours messing about he plugged it in and it blew again. He then ordered a second lot of parts and a compressor as well, I waited a further 8 days and heard nothing. When I rang Hotpoint to chase it up they told me itd be another 5-7 days before they could get all the parts! (for their own appliance?) At this point I said I wasnt prepaired to wait and that I considered that their inability to carry out the repair in a reasonable way meant that it was unfeasable to repair the appliance and I wanted a new one. A new one is coming on Monday. Lets hope this one doesnt explode as well, eh?
ProsCons
The fact that the appliance is prone to exploding is a pretty poor feature I''d say.

Much the same as everyone else, bought Dec 07 - closed the fridge - big bang - fused the house - bare cable in the fridge. Phoned them this morning - they offered to send a repair man out to make the alterations (free of charge she said - how very kind!!!!!!!!!) and fix it. I said GET IT OUT OF MY HOUSE IT''''S A HAZARD!!! A phone call to Trading standards followed by a customer services manager calling to say they will send a replacement fridge. It was only when i asked about compensation for food loss she offered a £60 sainsburys voucher. A nightmare but all resolved quite quickly (touch wood!) considering some of the comments on here. Vax S5 steam cleaner

I tested the Vax S5 steam cleaner recently and found it to be good at its job. It is a compact, lightweight model that is easy to move around and easy to use. It cleaned my ceramic tiles quite well and cleaned the downstairs bathroom carpet effectively, too. All the attachment tools are stored in the appliance itself, so its not easy to lose them!!I thought the best job it did was on my windows. It left them clean and smear free. I was surprised just how much you can clean with just 700ml of water. I did think that Vax could have supplied more cloths for the carpet tool and the upholstery tool and the screw on top for the water tank was a bit of a fiddle, but other than that I thought this appliance was good value for money.

disgusting!!!

Bought this 2 years ago and yesterday it went bang, smoke and a big shock to me. Paid £530 for this and was really gutted. Rang Hotpoint straight away and was told I had to fork out a lot of money to fix it by a rude man so I hung up. Rang an electician who condenmed it and thankfully didnt charge me anything!! Back onto Hotpoint and spoke to a lovely women called Gemma who said she would try to help and would call back. However in the mean time googled the fridge and found all these reviews and decided there and then that I didnt want it fixed or a new one, I wanted my money back or a completely different fridge freezer. Rang hotpoint the next day and WOW got to pick my own fridge freezer from the hotpoint range and got a £80 sainsburys voucher for the loss of food!!! Stick to your guns people and get hotpoint to take away the quadrio it is dangerous and they should not be selling it. The Sale of Goods Act 1987 states that the owner of any dangerous electrical appliance should be able to get a refund or a new appliance. Dont let them tell you otherwise and you should be able to choose a new fridge freezer. I also contacted trading standards and they want health and safety to see the fridge! Watch out hotpoint!!!

Free Repair for FF4DX (UK) bought before July 2009

Found this on the Which website FF4DX (UK) review page: ‘Hotpoint have identified an issue on some machines where the door heater wiring has fractured - in some cases, resulted in a short circuit occurring. Quadrios produced since 3rd April 2010 now have a more ‘flexible’ door wiring loom and shouldn’t suffer from the above issue. Hotpoint have requested that during every service call to a Quadrio, Service Engineers must check the hinge block and replace it on all pre - July 2009 models. The door heater wiring must also be checked and if there are any signs of damage, the door must be replaced as the wiring is foamed into the door. In addition, Hotpoint are offering to fix models where the door heater wiring has fractured at no charge. To take up this offer, call the Customer Service Department on 08448 224 224.’ From me: If you have a FF4DX Quadrio bought early 2009 (surely it should be before April 2010?) then check the wire leading from the body to the left door at the top of the fridge. Mine had worn right through. If yours is wearing, then there is a plasic cover that you can remove (UNPLUG THE FRIDGE FIRST!). You can then repair the wires with some electrical tape so that the fride runs until someone can come and sort it.

Hotpoint FF4DX went bang and started smoking

Bought this fridge/freezer Jan 2009 as it was a new model, we liked the look, we wanted something larger than normal but we didn''t have quite enough space for an American style fridge. It has been fine up until a few days ago when I noticed it beeping on a couple of occassions when the doors were firmly shut. Last night all of a sudden the electrics went. We couldn''t establish why so we reset the trip. About 10 mins later I went to the fridge as my 7 yr old wanted something. Opened the left door and the whole thing went bang and lots of smoke came from it! All the electrics went and my daughter started screaming with fright!!! Obviously it is out of guarantee but under sale of goods act not fit for purpose and after reading all these reviews has in inherant fault. We have e mailed hotpoint (who appear to be very difficult to contact re complaints!!) plus the firm we bought it from, and are just waiting to see what happens. If no luck then we will seek advice from Trading standards, Watchdog and the Crusader (Daily Express). It is not reasonable when spending £500 on an appliance to expect it to fail (in quite a dramatic way) after 2 years!
ProsCons
Looks great and has loads of space. The fact it lasts only 2 years!! Therefore exceptionally poor value for money.

Exposed wires.

I ordered a Quadrio Hotpoint Ariston machine from a Large French internet company called Mr GoodDeal !! It came and we have had 5 months of cold food, then the alarm started, and would not stop. The lights were flashing and dim, then I noticed the exposed wire. I immediately switched it off. The problem here in France, is that the machine is covered, but not the labour and inspection charges. This is written in the small print, and is an option for larger firms. Is there an EU law that covers ''known faults''? If there is , please tell me, so I can contest the approximate 200+€ charge I am looking at to repair my 5 month old fridge Thanks in advance.

Nothing but Problems

I bought this fridge in March 2009, after just having a Kitchen extension , after 3 months the right hand door fell off damaging my floor , I had to wait 2 weeks for new door engineer came out and admitted they had not been trained on how to fit these doors , anyway a year later the same as everyone else the left hand door went bang ! smoke coming out of the back , and they have talked me into buying a extended warranty when they know this is a design fault , Mmmmm I think Watchdog needs to know about this, perhaps this the only way they are going to admit there is a fault and get to the bottom of it and gives us all our warranty payments back , Oh and I am still waiting for the compansation for my damaged floor !

3 breakdowns in 6 months!

...bought in June 2010, looked great and it fit perfectly in our kitchen. 1) June 2010, can dispenser in door was puncturing cans causing them to explode everywhere. Hotpoint replaced dispenser with 2 shelves. Sorted :) 2) December 2010, Motor running loud, told by Hotpoint it was due to extreme weather conditions we were having! Sort of Sorted :/ 3) February 2011, All orange lights flashing on control board and alarm sounding, freezer has thawed, lost £1,000 pounds of medication in fridge that needs to be kept at a temperature between 2-8* fridge was 20*. Hotpoint-08448 224 224 sending engineer next Wednesday, couldn''''''''t believe it when the customer help desk guy tried to offer us an extended guarantee for a broken appliance :p What Martin Lewis-moneysavingexpert Say''''''''s: I keep reading people comment, saying a little-known EU law states there’s a minimum two years in which a faulty product can be returned and people asking why UK retailers don’t utilise it. Actually this is simply a misunderstanding as we’ve got STRONGER rights here… I was prompted to blog this after reading a suggestion in the new 50 words Moneyfesto 2011 that this should be implemented in the UK. In the past I’ve even read newspaper articles that get it wrong, so I thought it about time to set something down to correct what’s becoming a common urban myth. Actually the EU law talks about how long you’ve got to complain, not how long goods should actually last. And while it’s minimum 2 years, in the UK we actually get SIX years to do the same. What actually counts is what the legal definition of faulty is. The key is, at the time of purchase, goods must obey what I call the SAD FART rules, i.e. be of “Satisfactory quality, As Described, Fit for purpose And last a Reasonable Time” – if not, THEY ARE LEGALLY FAULTY (see full Consumer Rights guide for detailed explanation). Looking forward to Wednesday! :D

PLEASE DO NOT BUY ONE!!

I bought this Hotpoint fridge freezer on the strength of the capacity and design! Being 70cm wide it had alarge capacity for a families weekly shop. OH how I regret going for looks rather than quality! Within 7 months the first compressor went-1 freezer load of food ruined! The engineer explained how the compressor wasn''t ''man enough for the job and all the money went into the design rather than the component parts!'' - at this point I took out an insurance policy- though shocking to have to cover poor quality! Now another 7 months the same thing has happened again - now 2 freezer loads ruined!! As it is now just over 1 year old - Hotpoint just don''t want to know! Luckily I do have insurance and they have written the appliance off! 2 words of advice- 1. if your thinking of buying - DONT!! 2. If you haven''t already got an insurance policy - GET ONE!!

Was told to try customer service Mon - Fri 08.00 - 17.00hrs.. They wouldn''''''''t even consider letting me order the new part, Since reading this wedsite have found out it is a common problem with this model Like other reviews only bought it for the name hotpoint and the reliability - very disappointed! Bang goes the FF4DX

My appliance went bang today, as I was closing the left hand side door! At first I thought it was the bulb so ordered replacement from hotpoint, on further inspection realised the fridgefreezer not working so tried to order an engineer form hotpoint - they did not say there had been a problem with this fridge and the engineer could not come out till next week; this was not exceptable so I would sort out an engineer myself. I then googled problems with the FF4DX, WOW so many people with the same problem. I did not realise it was the wire in the door until I read the problems - checked my door and woe behold theres the exposed wire! I only went with buying a hotpoint appliance for the reliability - very disappointed! I have an engineer coming out tommorrow, spoke to him regarding the exposed wire - he has seen it before and has fixed. I will let you know.

Bang....

Very Happy with our Quadrio uptil now!!! Mine too has gone Bang, knocked the electrics out, wasnt sure what had happened reset the RCD box, returned to fridge to find light flickering & a nasty electrical buzzing noise coming from the left door? Called hotpoint new years day, "thanks for your call someone will contact you on Tuesday" oh great me thinks that''s four days away! thought i''d check out FF4DX problems online, to see if any other people have experienced a problem & i am blown away with the amount of people on this site that have recorded incidents? How many are there on here, im staggered. Why hasn''t this product been recalled? Ive called the hotpoint people again, told them what i have found on-line re this problem, got put on hold whilst a supervisor contacted & then told once again that someone will be in touch on Tuesday!. well as these calls are recorded ive made my point that i will not be paying for the repair (parts covered) & should there be an issue then i will be contacting Trading standards & be starting a small claim against the manufacturer. i will update when i have had the call & they enlighten me with a next step. But my initial advice to any other people encountering this problem is stand up for your self, tell hotpoint that you are aware of there being an issue with this product, & dont be fobbed off by them. this is dangerous, they know it & they should be liable for any repair.
ProsCons
shouldnt go bang! shouldnt have a cable liable to go bang! should have been recalled!

Stop moaning!

Yes the exposed wire is a design fault, but I still chose the ff4dx over others for it''s design and value for money compared to others. I recognised the exposed wire and simply covered it in a small piece of harder cable sheath to protect it from wear. A much easier solution to wasting time and money - think logically!

Snap ! FF4DX broken down

Bought our Hotpoint FF4DX May 2009- and took extended warranty. Ours broke down December 23rd 2010- both the fridge and freezer wont work. Noticed the exposed wire in left door immediately. Engineer came 31st Dec and immediately said new left door required- will be back 10th January. Fingers crossed all is ok then.

FF4DX

Thank you all for your reviews. My FF4DX went bang two weeks before Christmas. It was 18 months old and kept blowing the house fuses each time I opened up the left hand door. After a google search and reading all your reviews I contacted Hotpoint (indesit) directly and asked to be put through to Customer Resolution. The ladies were very helpful, agreed that it was a known fault and an engineer arrived 7 days later with new door - at no cost to ourselves, they even sent me a cheque to replace the food lost. I didn''t have extended waranty but they covered it all without cost to ourselves. The engineer replaced the door and control board, but the fridge was not happy and fluctuated between freezing the food and warming up to 15 degrees before kicking in again, sometimes not working at all. There was also damage to the internal casing caused when the new door was fitted. A return visit from the engineer has resulted in our FF4DX being replaced, once again at no cost to ourselves. I am just waiting for a tesco order and to swich the new machine on after standing it for 3 hours, its a little cold without the back door to the house on, as we had to remove the door and a unit to get it in the house. Hotpoint have dealt with the complaint very efficiently and swiftly - the only frustration was the duration between visits and not having a fully functioning fridge freezer for Christmas, but with all the snow and delivery issues it hasn''t really been a normal Christmas! Thank you all for your reviews it has really helped me get a satisfatory resolve. I still love my fridge and hope that this door thing has resolved with the new model - not sure the wire looks any different though!!!!
ProsCons
Space, looks and general performanceNothing until the wire in the left hand door went bang 18 months after purchase.

Same as everyone else!

Our hotpoint Quandrio also went bang on Christmas eve, the hinge in left hand door has worn wire away and blew circuit board. We had lots of smoke and had to throw lots of our food away for the xmas lunch, has been a nightmare. Hotpoint are coming out in 4 days time but are having to pay the £130 to look at it, but by the sounds of all the comments on here, it is definetly a design fault and it will need more than a repair!

DANGEROUS PRODUCT

My fuse box has tripped three times in two days and it was only on the third time that we put two and two together and realised it happened when the fridge door was opened. Thought there might be a problem with the socket so unplugged it and tried a different socket and nearly got blown across the room! Read the user manual - no help. Went on hotpoints website for advice - no help. Googled FF4DX and found this site - read the alarming reviews and checked the door; lo and behold same problem as everyone else - exposed wires on the left hand door. Have a freezer and fridge full of Christmas food as expecting 10 people for dinner - now defrosting and warming up as I type. More worryingly have four children and my elderly father, any of whom could have potentially been electricuted or left motherless! Will be contacting Hotpoint tomorrow and will post the response. There certainly should be a warning on their website and an urgent product recall. If no joy will be contacting trading standards and Watchdog - suggest others do the same.

FF4DX

As all the other posts bought 9 months ago from john lewis yesterday the fridge part went off due to the air vents freezing over for some strange reason stopping air circulation then whilst phoning John Lewis I saw the left hand door wiring was exposed due to the hinge catching it, so bingo immediately told them it was dangerous and i wanted it removed and a refund for the purchase and fridge contents of £50 which they agreed to do immediately although it was still hotpoints problem they only agreed to come out and repair it, no way was i having that after reading all these reports, thank you to you all

dangerous product

our quadrio fridge freezer is approx. 20 months old, and we first had to request an engineer to attend after 6 months he came a week later and told us that he would have to order a part (display board) he returned a week later al ok . We had just run over the 12 months warranty when the wire on the door blew the fuses , reported again three weeks later finally repaired after three different engineers , two weeks later reported fridge not working, again eng came out after a week changed another part , two weeks later another request for an engineer , customer service not interested in any way only that is all we can do . We have had up to today 2 new display boards ,three mother boards a new door not fitted properly 2 regas and a new compressor ,just recieved a letter from the insurers explaining that they recommend a new one of exactly the same type . I dont think so . This product is obviously not suitable for the purpose intended and I will be reporting to watchdog and urge anyone who has had a problem with this product to do the same

Hotpoint Quadrio FF4DX

Same problem as all the others but with a few twists. Replacement door different colour to the rest of the unit. Appliance still didn''t work as power board had been fused - apparently a known side effect of the wiring problem. Having extended warranty I wasn''t too concerned but it took 3 weeks to get a new power board. After 10 days it went off again. Apparently the defrost control also was bust - another known side effect. Replacement doors arrived - both different shades - no good. Eventually after 7 weeks they agreed to send a replacement appliance as I was covered by the warranty. I wasn''t expecting a bill for £79.31 for the cost of delivery!!!!! Don''t get me wrong I love the appliance - but I won''t be extending the warranty on this one I will just use British Gas Homecare to cover repair.

Hotpoint Quadrio

My Hotpoint Quadrio also went bang on Saturday night! I called hotpoint on Sunday and was told that I will be covered for parts but will be charged for the labour costs which is £104.97 ans someone will call on Friday 05.11.10 (6 days later!) I then discovered that this is a very common fault on the fridge/freezer and when I looked at my appliance closley there are worn wires in the door hinge and burn marks above the door, and on the back of the fridge where the circuit board is. I will be calling hotpoint again tody to query these charges.

expensive, unreliable with terrible customer service

Having bought the Hotpoint Quadrio FF4DX about 18 months ago i regret dearly that i did not opt for my second choice of the samsung. Whilst the fridge worked it was fine. But as soon as it started to break down a whole manner of problems emerged. I had the same problem as others with the door wire breaking. I also had a problem with thick chunks of ice forming in my freezer, so much so that i could not open the drawers at one point. The upper fridge section stopped working, the freezer is still working. It took over a week for an engineer to come out. When he did he tried to defrost my freezer with a hair dryer. He changed the door and a motherboard and then went away stating that it should be ok. he could not put the handle back on my door though. The fridge still did not work so after much argument and bull headedness on my part i managed to get another engineer to come out on the following friday. He came and said that the door wire had shorted out another part in the fridge that was now not allowing cold air to enter the upper section from the freezer. He went away. After 3 engineer visits (one visit to put door handle back on), I am now still left without a working fridge. Hotpoint say that they cannot do anything until the 18th October as it apparently takes that long to transfer a part that is needed from Peterborough to the engineer in London. I have now been without a fridge for 2 weeks, very difficult with 3 young children. This is a very very expensive product, it should last much longer. I have no problems with a company needing to correct a problem with a product, but the response times for what i now know is a known problem is beyond belief. My advice : DON''T BUY !!!! I was also lucky that i read this website and took out extra warranty before my fridge broke down.

Hotpoint Quadrio

What is wrong with hotpoint, how many complaints ref bad design and reliability does it take for some one at hotpoint to ackowledge that one of their products is causing them untold consumer damage. Have they no quality assurance people, or anybody at all that actually cares the damage all these repeating faults are doing to the Hotpoint Name. (Obviously not) We purchsed the Quadrio some 18 months ago (£650.00s worth) and it blew the RCD in our electric box last Tuesday morning, did not know it was the fridge until we smelt the burning of circuit boards. The fridge has been ok up until now, but for 650 quid i would have expected a good 7 year stretch before any faults. We thought we were the only ones and it may have been a one off until i went on line and read hundreds of similar complaints. We were lucky ref warranty as we purchased with a Nationwide credit card and got an extra 12 months cover. On the first visit by the engineer from Hotpoint/indesit he was only here 9 mins and new within the first 2 that it was as stated a common fault and progressed to order, you guessed it, Full left hand door, circuit boards etc, etc. I can not believe a company in todays market allowing this damage to be ongoing daily and from the feed back seem to not be bothered at all. i for one will be in full attendance when the engineer returns and will watch over him like a "clark of works " and will not let him go until satisfied its working properly again. I will also tackle him ref best way to get a positive result from hotpoint as i will be taking this up with trading standards and further as required. The fridge we had before was a Hotpoint, 10 years old and is still working never missed a beat.

Irate Hoptpoint Quadrio (FF4DX) owner

I am writing this review to warn anyone considering buying a Hotpoint Quadrio (FF4DX) fridge freezer - DO NOT BUY THIS APPLIANCE - if you in any way rely on having a fridge or freezer. I have had nothing but trouble with the freezer drawers, now (19/10/10) two weeks after the 12 month warranty expires the fridge section has completely packed up. This may not be a problem for a family who live next door to a shop and do not rely on having a fridge or freezer; but in our home - as in many others, in addition to regular foodstuffs e.g. Millk, butter, meat, poultry, fish, etc, we also store essential medications in our fridge. It does look good but what use is that if it doesn''t serve the purpose for which it was purchased?

AND.... the saga continues :-(

I BOUGHT A HOTPOINT FF4DX FRIDGE FREEZER, 27/07/2009 FROM CURRY''S. AND IT BROKE (1ST REVIEW BELOW)!! AFTER WAITING 2 WEEKS FOR AN ENGINEER HE CAME YESTERDAY (17/09/1O) AFTER GETTING IN FROM WORK I CHECKED THE FRIDGE TO FIND IT WORKING, BUT ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTED WITH THE WORKMANSHIP!!!.. HE HASN''T EVEN PUT A SEAL ON THE DOOR SO THE COLD AIR IS CONSTANTLY ESCAPING - HE HAS DAMAGED THE TOP OF THE FRIDGE AND THE STAINLESS OUTER IS HANGING OFF - THE COVER OVER THE WIRE DOESN''T FIT AND CONSTANTLY FALLS OFF - HE HASN''T HANGED IT LEVEL (APPROX HALF AN INCH OUT)! - IT MAKES A NOISE WHEN OPENING AND CLOSING AND TO TOP IT ALL, BECAUSE THE SEAL ISN''T FITTED THE DOOR DOESN''T EVEN CLOSE PROPERLY. HOW DID HE THINK THAT HE WOULD GET AWAY WITH SUCH A SHODDY, RUSHED, UNFINISHED JOB??? AFTER DOING RESEARCH HOTPOINT HAVE ADMITTED THAT THE WIRE IN THE LEFT HAND DOOR HINGE WAS A MANUFACTURERS FAULT AND THE MODEL I BOUGHT HAD TO BE REDESIGNED JUST AFTER MY PURCHASE. I AM SEEKING ADVISE NOW FROM A SOLICITOR AND WILL KEEP ALL YOU FELLOW FF4DX BUYERS UPDATED......

Hotpoint fridge freezer FF4DX

I too purchased one of these hotpoint quadro fridge freezers just over a year ago and i''ve had nothing but bother with it since the day i purchased it. The engineer has been out numerous times and ignored my pleas to exchange it for another fridge freezer, i have been constantly fobbed off! But recently my new fuse box which i only got installed 2 weeks ago has blown about 5 times, after reading all these reviews i now know the fuse box has blown due to the fridge freezer. My advice to anyone thinking of getting one of these stylish fridge freezer dont waste your money, nice to look at thats about all, the freezer is very deceiving also and does not hold as much food as i thought it would! ALL BUYERS BEWARE !!!!!!!

Waste of £700!!

After reading all your reviews I cannot believe that this item is still for sale. After having a new kitchen fitted the FF4DX was ideal as slimmer than the "American" style fridges, so was chuffed when I finally managed to purchase one. My hubby spent hours trying to sort out why the electrics kept tripping.... After unplugging EVERY electrical item in the house we finally found what was causing the problem. We have only had the fridge for 13 months and LUCKILY took out extra warranty. We, like all the reviewers below, are now trying to get the fridge repaired.... Wish us luck!!

Appalling design and dangerous!

How disappointing - the Hotpoint Quadrio looks great; in fact it has been great until yesterday when it started to blow the fuses in the house. It was only when I did a Google search that I found out that mine also had a major problem with the wire on the left hand door. The appliance is 11 months old, so it is covered under the 12 months warranty, but reading other reviews I wonder how and when it will be fixed; in the meantime I am without a fridge and freezer. This is a major design fault and Hotpoint should be recalling these appliances.

Got rid of it at last!

Further to my reviews of March and April, I have now had my fridge freezer fixed on 8 separate occasions through the D&G extended warranty. Hotpoint have now agreed to replace it and a new one is being delivered tomorrow. I am delighted to finally get rid of the one I have but it has cost me over £1,000 in wasted food since February and I am exhausted with the whole thing. I believe (and hope) that the fault has been rectified in the new models. Best of luck to everyone who has cause to read this!

As I said in my review of February 11th contact your dealer, this is what consumer direct told me and after weeks of haggling with Hotpoint I phoned Comet head office and within 2 weeks was told to go and pick a new freezer. Hotpoint were worse than useless. Hope this helps someone.

Blow Out

Had the same problem, last night. Big bang and the wire in the left door has completely blown. Fridge is only 18months old. Was stressed about ringing Hotpoint after reading all the reviews last night but they have appointed a special team to deal with this ''known'' problem - very helpful. They are coming to repair completely free of charge. Doesn''t make it right but at least it''s getting sorted. If you still have problems just give the service helpline a call again.

Hotpoint FF4DK Quadrio Blow Out

We bought the same fridge a year ago and have just experienced this blow out as you have all mentioned. I has tripped out the electrics 2/3 times a day for the last few days (we didn''''t realise it was the fridge) and finally blew the fuse tonight. I have not yet tried to contact Hotpoint as it has only just happened, but is it worth me ringing? Just thinking my boyfriend could try and fix himself (he seems confident!!!). Has anyone been successful in geting this fixed FOC? Thanks, Lucy,

Write to Hotpoint about your Quadrio FF4DX

problem with the Left hand door? I emailed Hotpoint to complain about the repair on my 15 month old fridge freezer stating that the cable was Live- (my hubby kindly checked this for me), I had pictures and a video clip, the appliance appears to be working with the internal light comming on -however my fridge cooked the food and defrosted the freezer. My reply from hotpoint was an immediate refund as a "gesture of goodwill"- further to this I got in touch with my local Trading Standards who were in conact with Peterborough Trading standards ( local to Hotpoint headquarters). Hotpoint Know about the problem and have performed risk assesments but have decided not to recall the product as it is safe in normal use- Ha!! The new door that was fitted -they tell me has a thicker cable but it looks the same to me. In Scotland you can claim for "consequential loss " which I am in the process of doing at the moment. If the repair works Great! I have a fridge freezer which looks good and because of the drawers -dog hair free (the reason I chose this design). If you have one and have not had the door replaced ask Hotpoint to repair the fault before you lose your food. Read American Fridge Reviews Here!

NEVER EVER BUY ANY HOTPOINT EVER(READ THE E-MAIL)

Just had the same wire in door problem wit my 6 month old fridge. Hotpoint send the engineer out with a replacement door(so they know this was the problem). Brilliant, so we would have this fixed within a week... oh no, never this easy.. here to follow is the e-mail send to them: THIS IS FROM HOTPOINT: Thank you for your recent email. We are sorry to learn of the difficulties you have experienced with your fridge freezer and of your disappointment with our after-sales service. We endeavour to repair an appliance as soon as possible after the fault has been reported. If our engineer is unable to repair your appliance on his initial visit, then we aim to complete the repair within a further 21 working days. I am sure you will appreciate, it is not always possible for the engineers to attend with all the parts necessary to repair the fault immediately. In some instances it is possible to send the engineer with the parts suggested by the customer, but that is not general practice as, if this is not the fault or further parts are required, this could create unnecessary delay. Whilst we appreciate the inconvenience, the repair date on Friday 21 May 2010 between 12-6pm does meet with our aims. The required part has been ordered from our main warehouse and your appointment arranged to coincide with our engineers parts delivery. I regret that in this instance we are unable to bring your appointment forward to an earlier date. We trust that following our engineer''s visit your fridge freezer will be restored to full working order. Nevertheless, please accept our sincere apologies for any inconvenience, which you may have been caused. Yours sincerely Tracy Vaughan Customer Care Team Indesit Company UK Ltd

VERY DANGEROUS

As per everyone else, my Hotpoint FF4DX had the left hand (smaller door) wiring fault. Basically there is a wire flex that runs very close to the top hinge. Sure enough it chaffs on the hinge and exposes the bare copper wiring. It is a heavy feed as it has brown (live), blue (neutral) and a yellow (earth), what it powers up in that smaller door I do not know. Fortunately I have just upgraded my household electrics with full RCD protection. The fault kept tripping out the RCD. If I had not upgraded, I would of blown a fuse and lost the contents of the freezer at worst electricuted myself or my family and/or caused a fire. Looks good, plently of space, well priced but just do not bother its bloody dangerous!

Has now been repaired 4 times in 3 months

Further to my review in March, I had an Hotpoint engineer out today because it broke down at the weeekend again - now needs a new module and display. This is the fourth time it has broken down in 3 months. I have no confidence in the Hotpoint engineer - he could not find a problem with it to start with and told me it needed defrosted. He was advised it is supposted to be frost free and it has been off more than on in the past 3 months, so even if it was not frost free it would not have needed defrosted. I have lost hundreds of pounds worth of food, which I will not be compensated for. I put in official complaint to Hotpoint, so am waiting on reply but not holding out much hope. Very unhappy and will never buy Hotpoint again. Reported this to Watchdog, if everyone could do this we might get somewhere.

The contiuing saga

The new door was fitted and the new motherboard. Shame the door was damaged and had to be replaced, This was carried out but what we hadn''t noticed was, although the freezer was working the fridge wasn''t. we didn''t notice for 4days, by that time all the fresh food had gone well off, in fact a container of fresh peaches was bubleing.A differant engineer turned up 5th March, never had a clue and spent 10 min on line at 5.50pm and said something to do with the defrost had caused a blockage in the vent which supplies the fridge with cold air and needed replacing. within 10 minutes I was ringing Customer service to complain about the incompitance of the engineer. Why could not someone in Engineering support in Peterborough have ordered this part. and saved the two weeks between my reporting the fault and the now engineer to call on the 15th March, what a joke.I have had my claim for the value of the food not covered by my "Freezer" cover (£82), and my excess of £75. We have also worked out that we are out of pocket to the tune of £60/wk for all the milk, salad, fresh veg, cold meats etc we are throwing away evrey other day,This works out at another £60x11wks=£660, which is more than I paid for the thing in the first place. You don''t realise how dependent you are on a fridge for your fresh foods. When it comes to Ariston/Hotpoint a saying comes to mind about organising something in a brewery. This from a product which Ariston ran a huge advertising campain on over the 2008 Christmas period. Our fridge is still under warrenty as Ariston extended it by 6mths which expires in June 2010 when the extended warrenty takes over. When in early January 2010 I asked why it took so long to repair their product,(thats funny now when you consider it is the 11th March and it still don''t work). I was informed by Aristine customer service if the product wasn''t repaired within 28days it would be replaced, I have now more or less been called a lier about this after questioning it''s validity. One question I have to ask is"What on earth do all the 400+ Ariston Engineers keep in those "BLOODY GREAT WHITE VANS". I wish I had bought a SMEG.

Hotpoint Quadrio FF40x Dangerous DO NOT BUY

I too had the bad luck to purchase this dangerous fridge freezer. Sure, it looks stylish and is spacious but it in my opinion is dangerous and could have electrocuted one of us had we not had a circuit breaker. I bought this fridge freezer on Feb 27th 2009 and it blew up on March 16th 2010. I paid nearly €800 for it and certainly expected it to last more than 12 months. Basically the Fridge freezer exploded with a loud bang and visible flash tripping the circuit breaker. We called out an electrician who advised us than the fridge had this door wire design fault. I have yet to contact Hotpoint as it''s a Sunday here and i can''t get through to them, so now i have to go any buy a new fridge and all Hotpoint are likely to do is repair the existing fridge freezer. Having read reviews of it on here and knowing that it happened twice in quick succession to one reviewer, i dont want this unit at all, repaired or replaced. I think hotpoint need to recall this product and compensate those who have experienced this problem before some one is killed.

Don''t even consider buying it!

I have had the same problems as others with this fridgefreezer. At just over 12 months old the door went ''bang''. I had taken extended warranty with Domestic & General. The mother board, door and something else was replaced 3 weeks ago because of the door banging. At the weekend the fridge started making a terrible noise, which you could hear from outside the house, then the fridge part stopped working. D&G were phoned on Monday and the man is here just now to have a look at it. I have now lost groceries worth in excess of £250 within a matter of weeks. This item should be recalled - I expect to get more than a year out of a large domestic appliance, which cost me over £600 at the time of purchase. It is useless and probably dangerous and I will never buy Hotpoint again!!!

Hotpoint Quadrio disaster

Interested, but disappointed to read other reviews of the door wire design fault in this model. I too have had the electrics blown by this flaw (luckily we have a circuit breaker!) Fridge/freezer now broken, food perishing and having to buy a small fridge to maintain essential food supplies. The Hotpoint engineer has come out and I have had to take out an extended warranty, £160 to cover this repair, this appliance is just 15 months old! Needless to say, despite the engineer being familiar with the flaw, the needed parts are not in stock. I''m still waiting for a Hotpoint call back, to tell me the expected delivery date of the parts. This fridge/freezer is not fit for purpose and ought to be recalled. I urge everybody who has experienced similar problems to contact BBC watchdog programme.

FF4DXUK quality problems

On the 29th December 09 with a fridge/freezer full of post Christmas food it went puff and overnight turned itself into an oven. Being the appliance was only 11mths old I contacted Ariston/Hotpoint, suffice to say there didn''t seem any sence of urgency. An engineer was booked for the am 5th Jan 2010, he didn''t turn up and another engineer attended on the 7th Jan 2010. This engineer went straight to the blown cable and stated "This is a known fault", and he would have to order the required parts.I was origanally informed that if the repair could not be completed within 28 days the product would be replaced, when this deadline pasted on the 27th January I asked for the fridge to be replaced. I received an email this am to say my request had been declined and the parts were due next week and an engineer would be contacting me. Like a previous review, we have had to keep food in bags and containers outside the back door, and I have bought a small fridge to store milk and butter in, and when the FF4DX is repaired in will be part of my claim on Ariston. To add insult to injury my insurance Co deducted £75 excess and £86 for the food in the Fridge as the insurance only covered the freezer contents. I have every intension of sueing Ariston in the small claims court for all these expences and for the destress of being without the means to keep food fresh. I would want Ariston/Hotpoint to remove the poor product and also to refund its origanal cost.I have copies of 12 emails from customer service personnel who bordered on the rude if not insulting attitudes, I can understand their frustration if this problem is happening as often as I suspect it is but at the end of the day they are supposed to be "Customer Care". Not couldn''t care less. I have only one question. " Why when this problem first raised its ugly head last year, why didn''t a good engineer devise a retro fit solution to the problem and contact all customers to retro fix the problem before it blew up in their face..
ProsCons
It looks good, and would be perfect if it workeddesign and build quality.

Quadrio saga

Just to update everyone on my "door problem"... as I said in a previous post my door went just before xmas and after phoning Hotpoint I took out the extended warrenty hoping for a quick fix for the festive season, I had to pay £160 and 3 days later an engineer arrived and said the parts had to be ordered in. To cut a long story short I was after a few false starts I was informed the parts would be here February 4th. In the meanwhile on advice from Consumer Direct I took this problem back to the trader Comet who for free sent an engineer out and he spoke to his manager and I was to get a repair free of charge. All good you would think so all I have to do is cancel my extended warrenty and though I havnt had a fridge/freezer for many weks I am not going to pay anything...... not so, I was on the phone to Hotpoint and domestic and general each sending me back and forward to the other for the best part of 2 hours to be told I would still have to pay for the engineers time that came out in the first place £106...unbelievable. I have sent them a letter since this and am waiting for a reply...or invoice.

do not buy hotpoint quadrio!!!

We have owned our hotpoint quadrio for 15 months when the door blew up on me.This was on the 2nd of january. We called on 4th of jan and were told as the fridge was out of warranty we wouldh ave to pay 160 pounds for a domestic and general extended warranty.Under reluctance we had to agree to this, even though we had paid 600 pounds for this product and expected it to last a lot longer. On the 7th of jan an engineer visited our house and phoned hotpoint to order a circuit board,as he did not have one with him.He was told by the person on the other end of the phone that we would also need a new door.Obviously this must be a common fault if a person in an office knew this.Even the repair man said it was a design fault and the new models would be made with stronger wire,as you could see where the wire had worn through. We immediately rung hotpoint to complain and were told by rathar rude and unhelpful customer services that there was no design fault and our door would be in stock the next day(as my partner had read on the internet that the doors were hard to get hold of due to high demand) Several days later (after being without a fridge for 3 weeks) we phoned hotpoint again who told us the doors were still not in stock. On the 25th of jan we rung domestic and general (who are hard to get hold of as the number on our plan puts us straight through to hotpoint) who told us as we have been waiting for a part for over 10 days this is unacceptable and he would chase it up as am matter of urgency. The next evening we were called to say an engineer would be out to us on 1st of feb, yesterday. We were told it would be an am appointment,so after having the morning off work,no one turned up,so i called them and was told some one would be with me between 1 and 3 so i ended up having to have a full day off work. The engineer came and lo and behold the device that he needed to fit had to be programmed so he could not do it.They have to now visit again on 10th of feb so i will have had to go without a nearly freezer for nearly 6 weeks and will have had to have had 3 days off work.Hotpoint should be compensating people for this catasrophe not charging them.perhaps if enough people complain to trading standards and watchdog something will be done about this,so another year down the line we dont have to go through this again when the door breaks!

Do not even think of buying a Hotpoint Appliance. EVER!

We''ve owned this fridge freezer for 13 months, however last week it blew up due to the "wire in the door" design flaw. After many phone calls to Hotpoint "customer service" (with small c and extra small s), I have had to pay over £160 to get the fridge fixed. We had to wait a week for an engineer to visit, and he identified the issue within less than 30 seconds of his arrival! He had seen the problem before, and said they have changed the design in newer models by using a thicker cable. My only worry is a thicker cable with break sooner, as the issue is caused through the constant bending and unbending of the cable through about 170 degrees. Anyway, the engineer didn''t have a spare door with him, so we are still waiting for it to be fixed. I don''t believe it''s unreasonable to expect a fridge freezer to last more than 13 months, so I will have to speak to Trading Standards and presumably take Hotpoint to the small claims court (as do so many other people it seems by a quick Google search). I will also contact Watchdog, as suggested by a previous poster. Learn the lesson of thousands of unsatisfied customer and steer clear of the Hotpoint brand, and any of its associated Indesit brands.

Me too

I also have had the same problem with the Hotpoint Quadrio with the wire catching in the door and also tripping my electrics, I even got an electrician to check my electrics. We had no fridge/freezer over xmas and only the vast amounts of snow we had helped keep my food in boxs in the yard. I have just had the Comet engineer out as I was advised by Consumer Direct to contact them and I wrote to head office he came free of charge and I am to get a repair done free of charge and am waiting for this to be confirmed and a date given. I imagine this will be weeks as I understand the parts are not even made in this country. I too think this is a design fault though Hotpoint deny it, I paid almost £600 for this product and it is just over a tear old, its disgraceful I think I might drop a line to bbc watchdog.

I have just had the Comet Engineer out to the very problem Maggie Fraser mentions, the wire in the left hand (small) fridge door has worn through and on Monday it caused the main fusebox to trip, had this not happened it is quite likely I could have received a shock. The Comet Engineer that came had never seen one of these fridges let alone worked on one and his solution was to cut the wire and tape it up and he would then go away and find out what to do. The fridge is roughly 10-11 months old and if this wire is going to wear away the insulation every time the door is opened it is going to happen again in another 10 months and again and again. I don''t think the wire is catching on anything it is just being kinked and straightend every time the door is opened and closed. VERY POOR DESIGN, buy something else. I am reporting this to BBC Watchdog.

ProsCons
Everything else.Cans fall out of the can holder in the door when you open the door. RISK OF BEING ELECTROCUTED BY DOOR BECOMING LIVE!

HOTPOINT FRIDGE FREEZER FF4DX

I bought this in May 2009 at Dixons online. It has been a nightmare product! In November the fridge and freezer both gave up. An engineer came to look at it and brought parts a week later to fix it. 10 days later the fridge went - an engineer came and changed the motherboard. Christmas eve the fridge gave up again. I complained to customer services on the next available working day which was 29th Dec.Dixons suggested a replacement to Hotpoint but they said NO they have to send an engineer out again and will only consider after the 3rd visit. An engineer came round today and said another motherboard had gone and that he was going to order parts. All attempts to get Hotpoint to replace has fallen on deaf ears. Unless the engineer tells them that it is beyond repair, they will keep on repairing it!! I am now going to see CAB about my rights in this nightmare situation. This product should be recalled as an engineers tell me it is one of the worst Hotpoint products on the market. IFYOU WANT A NIGHTMARE PRODUCT THEN BUY FF4DX. You have been warned!!!

design fault?

At less than a year old our FF4DX broke down due to the door action severing a wire. It needs a new PCB and door, 30 doors are on order apparently, indicating it is a common problem, but delivery of doors to Hotpoint is in dribs and drabs so repairs are very very slow. Customer ''services'' are terrible, there is no acknowledgement that an expensive item such as this should last longer than 12m or any hurry to effect a repair. In my opinion there should be a product recall. I would not recommend this model to anyone.
ProsCons
Looks good, roomy, good designSerious design fault in my opinion, poor warranty service.
