JK450 leak
I agree with all the comments from the other reviews. Now the bad news. Just as you are beginning to love this kettle it starts to leak like every other kettle on the market and as usual it happens just after the warranty has run out. I decided to strip the kettle down to see where the leak was coming from. One thing I must add. I live in a hard water area so descaling the kettle will have affected the life of this kettle. Anyway the leak occurs when the seal between the clear plastic container and the inner plate. The unit was quite easy to strip down. I then proceeded to clean away all the limescale that had found its way into the seal groves. I put it back together again but alas it still leaked. I stripped it a second time and this time used Boss White in an attempt to seal the leak. It worked and so far the leak has stopped. My wife has brought home about half a dozen kettles to replace the unit and none have been up to this one. To recap on the areas it beats all the competition: Boils quickly. Turns off quickly once the water is boiling. The hot plate retains no heat once the power is off. This is amazing and stops scale forming on the plate more than the competition. The jug is always relatively cool to touch compared to other plastic kettles. Decent size opening to fill clean. One last point which is a not so good point. The lid catches do wear as the unit gets past the warranty period and occasionally the catches fail to hold the lid in place. In addition the lid plastic does start to deteriorate.
