Good Product Let Down by Editing Functionality
I purchased this product in December 2007, and while it seems technically sound, it has issues concerning basic editing functionality that mean one should think twice before purchasing.
Its most crucial shortfall is that this device will not let you "split" video recordings on the HDD.
If you intend to do a mass transfer of those archive video 4/8 hour tapes, be prepared to have to press record and stop for each episode individually. None of this letting it record overnight and edit it later.
For example, if you have a 4 hour tape and you record it all in SP mode onto the HDD, you will not be able to transfer it onto two 2 hour discs, *because you can''t split it*.
This "split" functionality is present on other brand DVD recorders owned by friends and relatives and is, I feel a serious shortcoming on this model.
Secondly, in English (and every other video device I have ever purchased), the word "dubbing" implies that additional or new sound is to be added to an existing recording. It took several readings of the manual to realise that where they say "Dubbing" on the remote control, what they mean is "Copy". in order to copy titles between the HDD and DVD Discs, I needed to use the "dubbing" function on the remote control.
Once I worked this out, the "quick copy" function is not flexible enough to allow you to decide whether you want to copy in Short Play(SP) or Long Play(LP) mode *unless you play the whole title while you are recording*.
In conclusions, what seems to be a great product in terms of video and audio capture is let down by a poorly thought out software implementation.
