A review of the Casio Exilim EX-V7 Digital Camera

Casio have been working their little socks off with a new ultra, ultra compact that is the World’s Slimmest 7x optical zoom digital camera. And as we love things that are teeny tiny but do amazing things we could not wait to get this little piece of kit in our grasp to see how it could impress us. The eBay Best Shot Mode is an exclusive feature to Casio and has got to be revolutionary in its own right!

Design

When we clapped eyes on the Casio EX-V7 we thought it looked rather like a slinky little camera phone, but it has so much more to offer. The dimensions of 60mm (h) x 96mm (w) x 21mm (d) are so impressive because it means that this camera can slip into your pocket and go absolutely anywhere with you. The front of the Casio EX-V7 has a sliding panel that covers the non-protruding lens when not in use and sliding it back switches it on. The flash is also hidden by this panel. On top is the shutter release button and nothing else to get in your way. The majority of the action is on the back with the 2.5” LCD screen dominating the rear. Next to the screen is a zoom switch, playback button, menu button, dials mode, and d-panel. Simplicity is key with this Casio and everything you need is within easy reach for single-handed picture taking.

Features
Just because the Casio EX-V7 is small, Casio has not left out any fantastic features and we wonder how they managed to squish them all in. With 7.2 mega pixels and a 7x optical zoom lens you are guaranteed some spectacular results as this combination is a perfect match. In most cases a high mega pixel count is unnecessary and an average 7MP seems to be more popular with the everyday user. Important techniques are used within the EX-V7 to combat camera shake and blur, these being Motion Analysis Technology along with Mechanical CCD Shift Technology so rest assured that the images you achieve will have absolute clarity and sharpness, even at high zoom settings. One of the most interesting and revolutionary features is the eBay Best Shot Mode.
So how does this work, I hear you scream. Well, Casio have teamed up with eBay to create this exclusive feature so that the user can take an image of an item they wish to sell on eBay and the EX-V7 will capture the image in a size that is optimized for display on eBay. The eBay Best Shot Mode also includes a Macro mode so that images of small items for sale such as earrings or other jewelry items can be seen clearly. And just for an added bonus, as if that wasn’t enough, all eBay images are saved in a special eBay directory for ease of location. Other features include, a newly designed Exilim Engine 2.0 image processor, Auto Tracking AF (which keeps moving objects in focus until the shot is taken) and high quality movies using next-generation H.264 video encoding method.
Performance

The Casio EX-V7 will be available in the UK in April and will retail at around £299.99. We will be taking the new Casio EX-V7 out for a test drive very soon, so watch this space to see how it performs.
