Ideal 1080p LCD Television

This is the perfect TV for anyone with a low budget but also wants to experience the full 1080p for less than £850. This is the right TV for any serious gamer whether you play the Xbox 360 or the PS3 because of its quick response time of 6/ms and its great size. if you are shopping for an LCD TV you really should take this opportunity to buy this TV for such a low price.

The Sharp LC42XD1E

I cannot fault the TV when viewing a high def source, but standard definition TV is a real disappointment. The picture is not clear and movement carries a ghost. Why does nobody rate HD TV''s when watching standard def analogue and digital TV because that is where the issues lie.

sharp aquos lc 42xd1e

dear sirs, i have just bought the above tv after reading your reveiw, i think the tv is exellent. i have one bone to pick with you and that is regaurding the stand. in your reveiw you state that it can do all sorts of swivelling and tilting when in fact the stand is screwed into the back of tv and has no movement at all, other wise as i have said it is great, i have a sony bravia kdl40s 2010 i my other room and the sharp is all round a better picture. play it with the toshiba hd-e1 dvd and it is brilliant.very good buy.

The most mportant feature is..

I have had a Sharp Aquos LC42XD1E since Oct2006 and it is a very good TV. The picture is excellent and the shinny black case looks impressive and real quality. After owning an LG TV for a few months I now realise the most important feature about all Sharp big flat screen TVs is the fact if it develops a fault, Sharp send an engineer to your home or all occasions. The TV will only be removed if the repair needs to be done in a dust free area, like a flat panel change. This is so very important. So many manufactureres want you to post your massive TV back to a service department. This is so stupid. PIP, I don''t think I have that feature on mine..!! The other feature is the weight of the TV. Compared to an LG equivalent the Sharp is so much lighter..

Sharp Aquos LC42XD1E 1080p HDTV

For a TV that couldn’t be more HD if it tried, the Sharp Aquos LC42XD1E 42-inch LCD TV had no problem entering the tough HDTV market while managing to remain at a competitively low price.

Design

Sharp has provided a fine looking specimen with the LC42XD1E.  The polished black frame oozes sophistication, making it the perfect addition to a style-conscious lounge.  Take advantage of the included table stand which does all sorts of swivelling and tilting exercises, but if you want things to remain streamline this TV is wall-mountable.  All 42-inches of the screen are visible, making the overall dimensions that little bit larger at 1029 mm (W) x 709 mm (h) x 133 mm (d).

Features

For such a reasonable price, the spec list is surprisingly first-rate.  All the mod cons have been included, like 2 HDMI connections, PC input, a Top-Up TV card slot provision, and an integrated IDTV Freeview DVB tuner.  Sharp has left us wanting for very little it seems.  Brandishing the 1080p logo, it comes with the guarantee of offering the best HD pictures available.  The only area of alarm is the slightly small contrast ratio of 1200:1.  Audio is taken care of by the pair of 15 watt speakers located internally at each end, which perform well due to reinforcements such as surround sound, clear voice system and a dynamic contrast enhancer.  All the usual suspects are present too, including bundles of teletext pages, picture-in-picture and a 7-day electronic programme guide.  Underneath a cover on the remote control is a Tru-D function button, this improves picture quality on Non-HD satellite TV.  Gaming should be fun using this 1080p HDTV as the progressive scan makes motion smoother, especially with the six millisecond response time.

Performance

It has to be said, our whole viewing experience from start to finish was ultimately pleasurable.  Colours were fantastic, providing bright and precise hues on every inch of the screen.  We plugged in the Wii and played for hours, without any evidence of faltered motion handling at any point.  Sky HD was fantastic, the realistic performance seemed to suck us in and take us to the action.  Sharp’s crystal clear dialogue and pleasantly loud audio levels impressed us overall.  We must mention the slight buzzing sound coming from the rear of the screen, which we eventually put our finger on.  It turned out it was the backlight, so we tunred down the control and it soon stopped.

  • Table-top stand
  • Remote control
  • Cables
  • Manual
Overall Opinion

Sharp tv  is a fine specimen overall.  Completely honourable to 1080p, the picture performance was pleasurable to watch without any motion or colour spills to ruin the whole entertainment experience.  Connectivity is just as contemporary as its design.  This great performance combined with a great price tag is enough to win us over.

Awesome just buy,buy,buy

I have had this screen for 3 weeks now. Looked at many screens and took the plunge on this one. Fantastic design (simple) but the picture gives you a wow factor I have not seen before. My friends have sony, LG, etc and they have all said this is by far the best picture they have seen.I paid £1500 not cheap, but compare this to prices one year ago. Please note this is the first sharp item I have ever purchased, well done Sharp you will not be dissapointed.
