Garmin 660

I bought two Garmin 660 Sat Navs 2 years ago. Both performed OK for 18 months until one suffered battery failure - gave it away. The second still works but to get an upgrade on the mapping Garmin are demanding £59. The price for each was £330 and was suposed to be a NEC show bargain.
ProsCons
Non that I can think of.Garmin Service and backup

Nuvi 660 hrowaway

My 660 is now 2 yrs old. I bought a continental safety camera update., When that expired so did the Uk camera datavbase. On connection to the website I received the message that only one device could be connected at one time. several calls to Garmin ... result ... you need to send it back for repair £70 plus. Will I buy Garmin again ... what do you think.

ProsCons

Garmin Nuvi 660

I have owned this system for six months. Although it seems a very good unit the extra wires needed for traffice updates and poor mounting bracket make mounting this unit almost impossible without making your car look untidy. The display is clear but sufffers in strong sunlight and is impossible to see with polarised sunglasses. The safety camera updates are on subscription at a cost of approx £35.00 per year. However, all that aside I could live with this unit if it wasn'' t so slow at giving directions, e.g. you will be on route and approching a major junction and entering a roundabout before it catches up, telling you that you should have turned off two exits before. Garmin would have been better ditching some features, like the bluetooth function for your phone, which again is all but useless in operation and concentrate on making the unit refresh quickly.

ProsCons
Looks goodToo slow, misses junctions. Too many features

Garmin Nuvi 660

I travel 120 miles round trip to work each day on the North Wests busy motorway network. The traffic hold ups can be a nightmare. Therefore I have treated myself to the Nuvi 660, the unit warns me of trouble ahead using the "traffic master" network. The unit can then redirect me around the delay. Speed camera alert comes in handy (although I don't speed!). The blue tooth phone facility means you can use your phone through the Nuvi, make calls, read text messages etc. The unit is packed with other goodies, MP3 player, talking book, petrol stations, hotels, food outlets etc etc. The unit is top end of the market so has a price to match, however I think its well worth the money. For me personally its about avoiding delays and with the Traffic Master facility I'm looking forward to more quality time at home!!
ProsCons
Display is crystal clear. Very easy to useLike all Sat Nav's the dash board position can be tricky. I've placed mine low down near the CD player, you dont get reflection/obstruction on the wind screen that way.

Great sat nav system!!

I had wanted Sat Nav for a while as I do lots of driving. I looked at Tom Tom but quickly found that the live travel update was subscription based and required the buying of an antenna. Navman''s high end unit looked great, but had no bluetooth with it. I hadn''t really paid much attention to Garmin until I asked at a shop. The assistant explained the features and it seemed to fit the bill for everything I needed. It''s expensive at just under £400 but what a unit!! Straight out of the box and turned on it recognised my nokia phone and all the contacts! The mounting is very easy to use too, it can be angled in almost every direction and holds the unit firmly. It was really quick at plotting my location, great map layout and the live traffic warnings are great. It plots routes really quickly too and the POI list is impressive. I love the fact that the traffic feature is free, no subscription (tom tom take note)and no extra hardware required (navman take note).
ProsCons
Features Bluetooth Live traffic updates Plotting Mp3 if you want it! POINone i''ve come across yet!?!
