SHARP LC-32GD8E

Very poor reliability. During the warranty period same problem as many of you. Only sound without image. Repair service solved that problem and made an firmaware upgrade because some channels were not available. So, there were 2 different problems. Some time later (out of warranty period) the TV lost all the memorized channels. Message showed on screen is "database empty" without possibility to setup the TV again. Finally, I found in internet forum how to make a factory reset and after that it was possible to setup the channels. However, 1 month later, the TV is failing again: "database empty" I am sorry for Japanese people, but, next Tv will be korean....LG or Samgsung.

Problems with hd TV

Had this set since December ,no problems until we uprated to Sky HD 3 weeks ago! Since then we have intermittent failure of the HD signal. This results in losing the picture for two or three seconds and is annoying to say the least!!! The set was collected last weekend , tested in Currys workshop, and found to have no faults! It was delivered back to us yesterday but the problem has not been resolved!! Currys engineer is now suggesting that there is a compatability fault with the HDbox. Since the loan set (samsung) did not give us any problems, this would seem to make sense. Currys are collecting the set once again next week, so hoping they can resolve this problem. Has anyone else out there had a similar fault with a sharp tv, if so how was it resolved?

Very poor quality product & after-care from Sharp.

Had one of these for a few years, and it has a fault on the EPG which had led me to regret buying it. Surfing through the EPG will cause the set to lose all power, picture and sound, and need an un-plug / plug-in to get going again (but only probably briefly). Did some searching on the web and found I''m nowhere near alone in suffering this problem, and if you get lucky in your choice of search text, a solution can be found - a software upgrade required from Sharp. So, this morning I contacted Sharp''s TV helpline and quoted the model and symptoms. "Never heard of anything like it!" was their reply. "Should I take it up with the shop I bought it from?" "Yes" was their reply. So, back to the shop''s repair dept - three days affter it came from the first failed "repair". This time the TV will go back with a full diagnosis, and suggested course of action on how to fix it. Frankly, I''m livid that Sharp can provide a shoddy product and (once they have your money) completely ignore anything that goes wrong - especially if it is a known fault. Will never buy Sharp again......

Read review of the Sony LCD TV. Wish I''d read it before i bought one I know three other people that have the same problem. when you switch on from standby after 3 seconds the screen goes blank sound stays on. To reset fault you have to turn off at mains wait then turn on. This may take several attemps. Very peeved with bad product

Rip off

just out of warranty the Sharp TV picture goes black after anything from 3 seconds to 3 hours after turning on (sound stays on) to get picture back turn off then on again 30 seconds later(may take several attempts) the picture will now stay on for 3 seconds to 3 hours, you can pay sharp £160.00 for a repair which comes with a 3 month warranty. so ultimately after 1 years ownership you could pay anything from £160.00 to £640.00 a year to keep the tv working or if you pay for a technician to inspect the tv & they say its a manufacturers fault ( remember they earn money from repairs) sharp will reimburse the cost of inspection & repair your tv for free (not sure if that repair comes with a lowly 3 month warranty also !) personallly i will not be buying sharp anything ever again but if you think buying a replacement £400.00 to £600.00 TV every year or spending the same on repairs is ok buy one !

Sharp Aquos LC32GD8E HD LCD review

Design
Sharp have gone for elegance with the Sharp LC32GD8E. Now don’t stand too close or you will realise that the entire LCD is made from plastic, but at a distance you couldn’t tell a jot.  The square frame comes in the standard matt black finish with a strip of silver at the bottom just to lift up the design.  It’s this silver strip that also homes the speakers.  The whole screen is sat on a sturdy swivel stand that is also in silver. All the connections are at the back including a single HDMI input, an AV input, a PC input, and two Scart terminals.
Setup/Installation
Basic set up is easy but there's a whole variety of settings for colour and brightness change which you might want to specify to your taste.
Features
So the Sharp Aquos LC32GD8E comes with 1366x768-pixel resolution which will accept both 720p and 1080i formats. It comes with high brightness 450cd/m2, and a high contrast ratio of 1200:1.  The LC32GD8E comes with a 6ms response time which is pretty good for fast moving picture.  As with any Sharp Aquos range the TV comes with Advanced Super View Black TFT which gives better viewing angles and low reflection qualities.    The Aquos LCD comes with analogue and digital tuner and there’s also a CI card so you can top up your subscription to freeview.  There’s loads of different settings to customise your TV to suit you such as black levels and colour adjustment and there’s also a nifty Optical Picture Control option that uses the light sensor built in to adjust the settings according to the light in your room – sort of an inferior version of the Philips Ambilight.  The LCD also comes with NICAM/A2 Stereo and Dolby Virtual Surround Sound, eight days EPG and 60,000 hours Long Life Back light.
Performance
Considering the price of this Sharp TV we’re amazed at its performance.  Picture quality was similar to other higher priced HD TVs we’ve tested like the Samsung R series for example.  Picture quality was really good an colours were fantastic, particularly as you can change them to your specification.  Black levels were good although they weren’t blacker than the night and seemed lean more towards grey than black, but detail and edge definition was pretty good.  While normal TV was good, there wasn’t that amazing change when plugged into the HD box and image quality improved but to the same degree as other plasma or LCD TVs on the market.  Sound quality wasn’t bad either for a TV that has a slither of a speaker on the bottom.
What's In The Box?
Sharp Aquos LC32GD8E LCD, remote control.
Overall Opinion
We’ve been going on about the price but this really is a cheap good quality TV.  The Sharp Tvs has good quality image, good sound and best of all doesn’t cost the earth.  If you’re looking for a upgrade from your analogue TV to a HD plasma or LCD and aren’t really going to have lots of HD peripherals plugged in, then this is a damn good TV to purchase.
ProsCons
Very cheap Decent picture Freeview box CI card slotOnly one HDMI Not best for HD viewing
