Review the Samsung PS50Q7HD 50 in. HDTV-Ready Plasma Television

What a beautifully looking machine this Plasma TV is, coupled with a fantastic spec, excellent connectivity and very reasonable price - I was understandably hooked!! The set performed extremely well, at least to the standard I''''''''d expected from the reviews and beyond as far as picture quality was concerned. Unfortunately, it had one fundamental flaw: Background noise. After much research about Plasma TV''''''''s over 40" size, it seems to stem from the fact that fans are required to keep the circuitry at the back cool. Whilst I and other members of the family were willing to put up with the sound of a constantly running fan, best described as a low powered Hair Dryer, my wife wasn''''''''t so accommodating and said that it was driving her to distraction. So, it had to be sorted. I contacted the place where I had purchased the TV (Digital Point) and they immediately forwarded me to Samsung UK.

Samsung PS50Q7HD 50-inch HDTV Plasma TV

As the guys at Unbeatable have already reviewed the Q7 series’ 42-inch plasma, we already know what the 50-inch model has on offer, but there are a few minor differences to mention, so read on to find out more.

"50-inches of picture processing heaven"

I’m not wanting to state the obvious, but the biggest physical difference is that the 50-inch plasma is obviously 8-inches bigger than the 42-inch counterpart.  And for those extra inches, you’ll pay about £300 more.  The larger power consumption will affect the purse strings too.  Samsung's PS50Q7HD has 480 watt power consumption, instead of the PS42Q7HD’s 360 watts, so the electricity providers will be rubbing their hands together in delight.  The overall dimensions are 1227.1 x 802.2 x 95.5mm, and it weighs a hefty 36.9kgs.

"Excellent viewing angles"

To get the real picture (pardon the pun) of what this LCD TV has on offer in terms of design, tech specs, and picture performance check out the PS42Q7HD review.  But just a quick recap to avoid sending you around the houses, this is a very impressive TV.  It’s not 1080p, which is disappointing, and the connectivity is rather inadequate, but once you see what this screen can deliver in terms of second to none picture performance, you won’t care, we promise.
