Review of Sony KDL-26S2010U 26-inch LCD TV
|
It seems that Sony and their S-series Bravia LCD's go from strength to strength with intelligent technologies and chic looks, making them almost good enough to eat. We resisted the urge with the KDL-26S2010U though, and so glad we did as the performance was enough to settle our appetites.

Design
Presenting the all important HD-logo, and an array of other shiny features stickers, the 26in widescreen LCD does everything you could possibly need a TV to do. It’s slim design keeps in line with the S-series, making it neat and compact, and perfect for wall mounting (although the wall mount stand will cost you a bit extra). It comes with a custom-designed swivel stand giving the KDL-26S2010U easy and smooth manoeuvrability. It only weighs 11KG so it’s nice and easy to get home, stairs aren’t a problem with the size of the box either. The remote control design is pretty simple - it wouldn’t win any design awards but it’s definitely not one to hide under the cushions when your mates pop round.

We would say the KDL-26S2010U is a perfect example of a 3 step installation. 1) Get it home 2) plug it in 3) let the TV do the tuning and you’re finished. We love these easy set-up sets. The remote is easy to use and menus are extensive (and strangely understandable). Equally as understandable is the instruction booklet - Sony have obviously realised that not everyone is in the technology set-up business!

| Features |

The KDL-26S2010U is certainly not short of features. The S-series all boast the Bravia Engine Processor which works its ass off to bring you an amazing image performance at all times with every source. The LCD S-PVA panel has a new type of pixel structure (1366 x 768 resolution), providing amazing colours and clarity. To handle motion pictures, Sony has given the KDL-26S2010U an 8 millisecond response time, blur can eat dust. With most 26in screens, wall mounting is usually opted for, another reason to stick it on the wall is the 178 degree viewing angle giving you a superb view from anywhere in the room. Like all Sony TVs, the KDL-26S2010U has TruSurround XT technology, meaning you won’t need additional sound systems to get decent audio. The built-in amplification and BBE digital enhancement provides noise-free sound at all times. It’s also got the all-important integrated digital and analogue tuner with extra Freeview channels. If you are wanting to plug your HD sources and PC into the KDL-26S2010U, you’ll be impressed to find that it has a HDMI connection, PC input, 1 component input and 2 RGB scarts. We would have preferred two HDMI’s but we are happy to settle for one.

| Performance |
|
In the first 30 seconds of viewing the KDL-26S2010U, all three of us agreed that the KDL-26S2010U puts out a wicked performance. It does everything we could have possibly wanted (well almost), and more. With SD, the performance was superb and when we plugged Sky HD into it we were just blown away. The pictures are so true to life with vibrant colours, we saw crisp lines and excellent black levels. Watching it in the dark was awesome thanks to the competent back light. We watched Oceans 11 on DVD, the performance was second to none, motion didn’t even cause any problems for the KDL-26S2010U. Audio was wicked too, no buzzing or humming and even when we cranked it up there was still zilch. Ten out of ten for performance.
Overall Opinion
The Sony KDL-26S2010U HD TV is a spectacular unit and we were mighty impressed with its performance and list of features. Images were superb and sound was as equally interesting. We strongly recommend this Sony HD TV.
