Pioneer DEH-P55BT Head Unit

I really wanted to be able to play MP3 CDs and have Bluetooth in the car. iPod compatibility was desirable as well so this unit ticks all the boxes. After trawling through a few products I found I could get cheaper head units without the BT option but adding it not only put the cost into the same ball park figure (£180) but would also mean more wires and modules. This would make for a messier installation so great VFM IMO. I fitted the basic head unit in a few minutes as my Clio wiring loom fitted straight into the leads provided. I did need buy a radio antenna adapter though. It was a straight forward job to unclip the cowling around the steering column and feed the microphone cable through. I also ran a 3.5mm-3.5mm cable (not supplied) through here and installed my iPod on the heater vent by the offside window. It is very easy to control the iPod from here via AUX1 input. I found the manual easy to follow and required to set up BT and switch on AUX1. It all works fine.

ProsCons
Easy to install (for my car at least). Looks great, can change illumination to match your car. BT wasn't difficult to setup and I downloaded address book with no problems (Samsung D900). Good call quality. Good manual. Excellent music playback.Probably not the best for techno-phobes but it is all explained in the manual. AUX1 interface is a little quiet (OK if iPod was on max volume).

Pioneer DEH-P55BT

This unit was purchased because it was an easy-fit Bluetooth phone unit and it had Long-Wave radio-two things the original car radio lacked. It was easy to fit with a wiring adapter plug, and perfoms all functions well. Audio settings are comprehensive and the phones' remote mic is efficient and calls are clear both ways.
ProsCons
Does everything well if time is taken to get the best from its wide-ranging settingsPhone book entry is complicated but may be easier with non-Nokia phones. Does not have security code
