Olympus E500 + lenses

This digital camera follows the style of the film version of a true SLR. It is well balanced and feels solid and is comfortable to hold. It can be used as a fully automatic device or by an experienced photographer with access and adjustment to all functions. It comes with a 14-45mm F3.5 zoom lens which is adequate but the addition of the 14-54mm F2.8 transforms the results to the 'stunning' level. The 4/3 lens mount means the lens is half the normal 35 mm focal length i.e. 14-45mm is the equivalent of 28-90mm in the 35 mm format. The more the camera is used the more you get behind the mind of the design team and things become intuative. It will be a long time before anyone will need to upgrade this camera. Firmware updates are availble by using the supplied software and a connection to the Web There is a range of addtional lenses both by Olympus and Sigma. The one I find outstanding is the F2 50mm macro lens which is superb for portraits.
ProsCons
Well put together and sturdy Very versative User adjustable parameters Very good battery life - I bought a spare battery and have never needed to use it yet!!! Feels nice Puts a smile on my face when I use it. Even bigger smile when I see the resultsThe 'quick start' booklette is a waste of space. As a spectacle wearer I find the supplied viewfinder eyepiece poor making it difficult to see the info in the veiwfinder. Actually composing the picture is no problem but to find out the camera settings I have to look at the LCD display on the rear of the camera. Olympus say there is a better eyepiece for specs wearer at a cost!
