Wouldn''t really be without it.

This Sony NVX can't really be described as "handheld and portable" as it requires power supply from cigarette socket.I have had it for over 2 years now,and apart from the usual "diversions",have been very happy and confident with her.I say her as she is called "Deidre"! She took me to the other side of Geneva 2 years ago, with only 1 hitch when there was a new ring road around a town which she didn''t recognise.I purchased it from a large retailer as it was on on offer, and actually got a refund 2 weeks later when they had reduced it further[Probably because it was obsolete.]As I am a caravanner I have found it invaluable negotiating the roads in Devon and Cornwall and Wales. I am disappointed in the upgrades,as I have had a roundabout near me for a long time, and she doesn''t know it''s there!

ProsCons
Extensive European coverage[except Greece] Remote control. large screenNot portable. There seems to be a lack of upgrades for this model

Great, solid and reliable !

This is a very reliable satnav. It is easy to use and the remote, believe it or not, is a useful device to have and stops the need to lean forward. Used it in France last year and it was faultless ! If you dont mindnot having touch screen then this device is great !!
ProsCons
Clear, easy to use, reliableNo touch screen. Takes a while to lock on to sats

Sony NVX-P1 Satellite Navigation Device

Like all things Sony – the NVX-P1 is a superb plug-and-play Personal Satellite Navigation Device.

What we really like about this piece of kit is that you can move it from vehicle to vehicle really easily making it more convenient for families with a few cars.  Powered by a cigarette lighter socket, the P1 is sits in its supplied easy-fit cradle and looks really smart.  Its brushed aluminium design isn’t as smart as it would be in black but that depends on the colour of your vehicle’s interior.  It features a 9.5cm, high-resolution display is large as far as Sat Navs go, and is very high quality.  It is perfect for the in-car environment and in was viewed well in all lights, bright or dim.  The NVX –P1 has got a clever re-routing engine as well as a 3D map view.

Sony Sat Nav Review

With a Graphical User Interface and multiple viewing modes, we found that operating the NVX-P1 was easy as.  It’s got voice guidance (via a built in speaker) - which wasn’t as annoying as some we’ve heard - and is available in eight European languages.  It also has 2Gb pre-installed HDD and map coverage of over 20 European countries (excluding Greece).  Another feature that we were ultimately impressed by was the Infra red remote control.  It came in very handy when you’re driving along and you can’t take your hands off the road.

Overall Opinion

The Sony NVX-P1 Satellite Navigation Device is a great Sat Nav system that will guide you from A to B without getting you lost (not like other devices...). It's easy to use and we like the fact that includes european maps. We also love its infra red remote control.

This is Sony's first offering and it needs work. For the price it is a little disappointing as it lacks touch-screen and intuitive menus. On the positive side it does have maps of the whole of Europe as standard which is a massive cost-saving on its own, but the basics of this device do leave a lot to be desired. Against the Garmin StreetPilot III it is miles ahead, against the Navman for Palm it is woefully lacklustre.
