Reviews

Some time ago I wanted an iPod and bought a new 2nd generation model for about 280 quid, I loaded a few of my CDs on to my G3 Mac (until it was full) and transferred them to my brand spanking new iPod, Mac was full the iPod had only used up 25%, so bought a new G5 Mac which cost a lot more than 280 quid! Now compared to the latest iPods my old thing is a Brick, so I've bought the Nano in black as I think it looks better than the white model. Can't believe the size and the weight, the sound is terrific and navigating through it on screen with the touch sensitive click wheel is slick. I have put a few photos on and they look well on screen, and you can run a slide show with music if you like which looks good. The Nano is a sleek and stylish MP3 player that will turn heads, but do get a cover for it as there is a lot of bad press on how easily it gets scratched. I would have preferred if Apple had kept the headphone socket on the top of the iPod, its on the bottom which got me scratching my head but it didnt stop me buying one. Accessories make the Nano versatile, the Lanyard headphone turn your iPod into a fashion accessory when wearing them around your neck and the armband is a great way to carry your iPod when your doing something sporty, remember the Nano is a flash-based MP3 player so virtually no skipping on tracks when youre working out or on a run. Its a damned good gadget, great looking design, sound and display are excellent, the 4GB holds up to 1000 song, with the battery life you can get up to 14 hours of music in one sitting and all this in a player that is 90mm high, 40mm wide and 6.9 mm thin and it only weighs 42 grams, so try not to lose it.

Overall Opinion

The Apple iPod nano is without a doubt the best portable MP3 player we have tested. It's small, stylish and produces superb sound and image quality. We like its tiny size, its long battery life and the fact that there is a very long list of accessories available for it. If you need music on the go, the Apple iPod nano is the one for you, although we recommend you to buy the 4GB model instead of the 2GB as it offers double the capacity and it only costs a little bit more than the 2GB model.

General Description: This new iPod nano is both very small and thin (a little bigger than a credit card). Compared to its larger brother/sister, it is only a third of the iPod mini’s weight. At the moment, the nano is available in either black or white. Good Points: With the 4GB model the nano can hold up to 1000 songs on its internal hard disk. This is plenty of storage for your favourite songs. The colour display is very clear and is a vast improvement over the iPod mini. The addition of a colour display also means that you can store and view your digital photos. The 14 hours of battery life is also a vast improvement over the iPod mini. Bad Points: A recent Watchdog report (played on BBC1) claimed that the battery life of some current iPods gradually deteriorates with time. In the report, some of the interviewees also claimed that their iPods were rendered useless within a year of purchase. With Apple’s refusal to replace old batteries free of charge Due to the size of the iPod nano, the controls are smaller making it slightly harder access the controls. Verdict: A very stylish and attractive MP3 player which is a must buy for any gadget lover. However, the small controls make it a little difficult to use at times.
