Logitech mm50 docking station for iPod

I have had my Logitech docking station for about 3 years, and the sound is just great for such a small unit. It goes anywhere with me, and works just as well on battery. However, a year ago it died - I couldn''t get any response. I nearly tore my hair out trying to get someone at Logitech to have a look at it, but could not reach anyone, on line or by phone. It seems they just don''t want to know, once the sale has been made, about repairs or after sales service. In the end, a friend took it apart, took a cotton bud to some contacts, and a clean toothbrush to the iPod contact at the front, and it has worked ever since. So, if you want a great product but can''t stand the nerve-racking problems that crop up if it should fail, don''t get it, but if you want to take the chance, I can''t speak highly enough of this docking station.

Review of Logitech mm50 (970173) Case, Docking Station, Speaker System for Apple iPod (9701730403)

Whether intentionally or not, Logitech's MM50 Portable Speakers are very similar in design to their more expensive counterpart, Bose.  For less than £80 we were excited to see if they could perform nearly as well. 

Design

Ready-made to suit all iPods, the Logitech MM50 Portable Speakers are also ready for travel at 325 x 102 x 38mm and weighing just 725g.  They come with a cute custom-made travel case making your journey a fraction easier.  The retractable legs disappear too, making it ultimately easy to carry if you choose to. 
Features
It comes supplied with adapters for all iPods, apart from the Shuffle and the Nano, to make the player fit tightly without any movement.  For the Shuffle or any other MP3 players you’ll need a 3.5mm cable that is connectable to the speaker.  The brains behind the speaker are the three pressure drivers that claim to maximise bass and minimise distortion.  This is enhanced by the 3D sound processor that widens the stereo effect, causing you to hear a much bigger sound than you expect.  The power is supplied by a rechargeable lithium-ion battery which lasts up to 10 hours.  Once the iPod is plugged in it will automatically recharge (even when the speakers are charging).  The power cable supplied allows you to recharge the speaker’s battery when required.  We really like the pass-through adapter that allows you to link your iPod to a computer whilst docked.  The tiny remote control allows you to do everything you need apart from search, you can only skip forwards or backwards.  The 3D sound option is a nice feature helping to improve the performance no end.
Performance
After using some unmentionably awful speakers for a few weeks, it was such a pleasure to get hold of the Logitech MM50 Portable Speakers.  The battery lasted just short of 10 hours as promised, even when chopping and changing from song to song.  As far as performance goes, we were impressed.  Using the 3D stereo option we found the Logitech MM50 Portable Speakers sonically soothing and exhilarating at the right times.  Dialogue was crisp, without any sign of noise.  The volume levels were impressive too; the Logitech MM50 Portable Speakers really put on a powerful performance despite the size.
Overall Opinion
With a mixture of compatibility and performance, these Logitech MM50 Portable Speakers overly impressed us.  For this price we haven’t seen anything else that has come close.
