Better than expected

Have this tv for a couple of months and I am very pleased with it so far. The picture quality is excellent and the sound is good for such small speakers. I have a 5.1 system in any case but this is only used for movies. Generally the TV is used by the children during the day and my wife and I in the evening, in both cases the image is very sharp and easy to look at. It is lacking a second scart but I used the S-Video lead instead and I am very happy with the image from that. The sound is neither good nor bad and very usable for day to day viewing. The lack of a HDMI connector is no loss since it is not likely that you will want to have the tv speakers as the only source for a blockbuster movie. DVI is more than adaquate. Overall, I am more the delighted with this and have recommended it to friends who are thinking about making the change to HD without the credit card busting expense.
ProsCons
picture quality plenty of connectivity easy to set up and start to usefeels flimsy but fine once up second scart missing remote control buttons a little small

Great set for the money!

Ok lets get something straight first, you do not require a HDMI socket in order to get HD quality images. The Samsung has a DVI socket, this enables you to view the same quality digital picture you would with a HDMI socket. What's the difference I hear you cry, well a DVI socket only transfers the image, not the sound. So if you're planning to use the speakers on your LCD TV then a HDMI socket is essential, if you're not (e.g. my sound is via an amp like many people who buy these TV's) DVI is perfectly fine.

ProsCons
Price, cheap as chips. Quality, way better than my friends Panasonic which cost him an additional £350! Aesthetics; Very subtle looking, no silly silver flashes. Image Quality, hook it up to an upscaling DVD Player and the picture is fantastic. Connectivity; you can link it up to almost everything, PC, Sky, DVD, Digital TV etc etcNo dedicated Audio Out, you require a Scart > 2 Phono in order to get sound direct from the TV to an Amp. Those with Sky Boxes, PS2's, Xboxes, DVD players can just route their sound directly to their amps so need not worry. Changing the Source from TV > S-Video > Ext 1 > Ext 2 is a little cumbersome as you have to go through each option.

Samsung LE27T51BX 27 inch TV

In a world where HD seems to be the buzz word, you’d think leaving out a HDMI port at the back of the LCD TV would be commercial suicide. But it doesn’t seem to have stopped Samsung.

They seem oblivious to the fact that most people buying a HD ready TV might want to attach a Sky HD box or perhaps their Xbox360 or even a HD-DVD player when they finally come out.

It makes you wonder whether they know something we don’t. Or maybe they just forgot to add it on. Nevertheless, if a HDMI socket isn’t an essential for you, but you are looking for something with sharper visuals than your old model the Samsung LE27T51BX is acceptable.

Seimens LE23T51BX HDTV

It’s a television of contradictions that could be so much better but seems to lack the quality that would push it up into the A-listers of tellies.

For a start it’s black, which makes a nice change from silver, although disappointingly it feels a bit plasticy and flimsy.

It’s only 27 inches so it won’t take over your living-room if you live in an average size British home. But while it sports 2000:1 contrast the picture isn’t as good as you’d expect from such a spec.

The model comes with two built in speakers, but they can sometimes sound like your ear-drums have been stuffed with cotton wool, producing a muffled sound.

There’s no Freeview installed and as we’ve already mentioned no HDMI input. But it does have PC connectors, two Scart sockets and PIP (picture in picture).

Overall Opinion

If you're on a budget and want something that is HD ready and with more fridge benifits than your old set, the Samsung LE27T51BX is a pretty good choice. If you can afford to pay a little bit more, there are better models out there.

Slightly incorrect facts but a great TV

The LE27T51BX is actually an LCD TV - which is great as LCDs are a lot more durable than plasmas and also save you some money on your electricity bill. I got my set as a replacement for another Samsung product which was faulty (wont go into that here) but I'm very pleased with this TV. It has great sound quality and an amazing picture. Also if you have 14 friends (unlike me) you can get this set for free HDTVGrab . com / index . php?referral=4567 (I''''m after a 2nd one for my Ma :) )

ProsCons
Loving this set. No problems so far.Well I''''d like an additional scart socket and true hidef (1920x1080) would be sweet, but at this price? I think not.
