Ok lets get something straight first, you do not require a HDMI socket in order to get HD quality images. The Samsung has a DVI socket, this enables you to view the same quality digital picture you would with a HDMI socket. What's the difference I hear you cry, well a DVI socket only transfers the image, not the sound. So if you're planning to use the speakers on your LCD TV then a HDMI socket is essential, if you're not (e.g. my sound is via an amp like many people who buy these TV's) DVI is perfectly fine.
| Pros | Cons |
| Price, cheap as chips.
Quality, way better than my friends Panasonic which cost him an additional £350!
Aesthetics; Very subtle looking, no silly silver flashes.
Image Quality, hook it up to an upscaling DVD Player and the picture is fantastic.
Connectivity; you can link it up to almost everything, PC, Sky, DVD, Digital TV etc etc | No dedicated Audio Out, you require a Scart > 2 Phono in order to get sound direct from the TV to an Amp. Those with Sky Boxes, PS2's, Xboxes, DVD players can just route their sound directly to their amps so need not worry.
Changing the Source from TV > S-Video > Ext 1 > Ext 2 is a little cumbersome as you have to go through each option. |
