Smartdisk Cameramate cm 50000 Video Capture

this is a brilliant piece of gear. It does exactly what is says on the box. Software installed easily and is very easy to use. The processing is slow so it's best to start the transfer process and then go away for a couple of hours. Set the record time to 1 minute longer than the video tape time. The only gripe is the estimated space available on DVD is incorrect. I tried to copy a 2 hour video onto a DVD but the max time limit appears to be about 1 hour 45 minutes.

Hi; I too had a problem at first with this device.Mine kept recording in very poor black and white, as if it were locked into N.T.S.C format and not the british PAL SYSTEM ?!! Then a college friend of mine suggested that after i installed the "arcsoft-quickdisc" software that comes with it, that if i "right" clicked on the startup icon before trying anything else a properties box pops up.You can then choose to run the software at different windows versions (ie 95,98 ME, 2000). I have XP and had to set it to run on 2000 before it worked O.K. I must admit the colour could be a lot better though (it looks washed out). However run the video through an anolouge mixer desk (ie.Vision 500 etc)and turn down the main video slider before conecting to the "Camermate" and you should end up with fiarly reasonable results; better than loosing the shots for ever as can happen to tape over time!

you know wot I am a complete technophobe, along comes this piece of kit that has my name written all over it. I can even install it, but alas it is not all its cracked up to be. I have installed the software as described in the idiot guide (which is brilliant)but alas after the copy is complete the dvd is of very poor quality and the colour had difficulty knowing which piece of the picture it belongs in. The colour is a complete wash out. My opinion is that if like me you dunno quite wot your doing dont be tempted by this little gizmo as I feel you will be dissapointed too
