Bottom oven in my smeg has failed three times, first the timer broke, second with thermostat, not sure what this time, but its only a few years old and the main oven won''t heat. Don''t buy. Similar comments to others regarding how easy their gas hobs scratch too.

SMEG SCA504x outer glass door shattered

My review is for a SMEG Model no. SCA504x which is a single oven and top hotplate. Yesterday after finishing cleaning the trays in my daughter''''s oven, I pushed the door back up from the middle of the handle and the whole thing came off and the outer glass shattered everywhere. The oven was cold and infact has only been used no more than 4 or 5 times and has only been installed about 4 months. This is appalling. It came as a package deal with a dishwasher and was not cheap, but it certainly acts that way. When I rang regarding the warranty, the girl had a tinge of narkiness about her which will not be appreciated when I ring back today with all the details. There must have been a stress point where the metal plate to the handle was screwed into the glass. What if this had been a hot oven. As it was it shattered into millions of pieces all over the floor.

ProsCons
looked niceGlass shattering and water marking

DON''T by SMEG

Please anyone looking to buy a SMEG oven do NOT do it!!! Complete waste of a lot of money. We paid over £700 for our oven, it was one of the ones from the self cleaning range....what a load of C.R.A.P. It is not even 3 years old, we have replaced the theromostat and the inner glass has shattered 2 times!!! It has cost us an extra £350 on top of the £700 we paid for the bloody thing. SMEG stands for the following: S....shattered glass x 2 M....Money, what a waste of E....Elegant it may look, don''t be fooled. G....Go and buy something decent As you can see I''m not a satisfied customer. The glass has just smashed for the second time about 30mins ago so I''m now off to spend an hour tyring to sweep up all the million bits of shattered glass on my kitchin floor.

ProsCons
Value for money- non existent Faulty- yes very. Thanks for ruining my Sunday you idots.

Fan Element gone after 14-months

After just after a year the fan element has gone on our oven also, for the cost of the oven its very disappointingg indeed. On top of that we have also got a problem with the cooker hood, the bulbs blew, but even after replacing them the lights are still not working!?! Maybe its me or maybe there is something in teh saying "Smeg cookers looks good, but lacks substance"

Smeg Quality

Bought this oven just over 2 years ago. Although not heavily used the main oven circular element has already failed. I do not consider this acceptable given the low usage. My previous Belling cooker gave sterling service for 18 years requiring only 1 repair to oven door springs. Should have known better my brother-in -law once owned a Lancia. !!

All SMEG APPLIANCES - WASTE OF MONEY!

I agree - I have my $40,000 (aussie dollars) kitchen re-done and bought smeg everything...........double oven, cooktop, range hood and dishwasher....I paid an arm an a leg on my kitchen and i though I would invest in SMEG - NEVER AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!! I have had my appliances for 2years (the first year they were not used as we were renovating my home) so my warranty is up.... I have been using these appliances for 1year....I have used the oven 20 times and the door of the top and bottom oven are between the glass there is oil dripping and dried steam...I can't get in between the glass to wipe between the glass - it looks disgusting YUCK (degrades my showroom kitchen) My cook top is very hard to clean and easily scratched (comparing it to other brands I have used) My dishwasher i bought to complete the kitchen (used it twice) as i like to handwash...........the door from the outside has rusted and the stainless steel very hard to clean streakfree - Smeg arent interedted in ME - BAD!!

Disappointing Purchase

I bought a DO8CSS built-in Smeg double oven in June 2003. Just after a year the thermostats in both ovens needed replacing at a cost of £150. Six months after that the top oven/grill door shattered and fell to the floor. Having already spent money purchasing the oven and then paying to repair the thermostats I was unwilling to throw even more money at it by replacing the door at a cost of at least another £150. Bear in mind that this oven is only 2½ years old at this point and cost in excess of £600 to purchase. I spoke to Smeg and they said I was unfortunate! I then wrote to them and they advised me that it was my own fault as I had not taken out any additional insurance as well as being unfortunate. The ovens and grills do not cook evenly and are very nosy when on due to the fan. Needless to say I will not be purchasing any Smeg products again and do not recommend them

ProsCons
Looks niceUnreliable, uneven cooking and grilling and terrible after sales service
