Sunpak 622

Ive got TWO actually. Unlike the similar Metzs, its modular, and I think, far superior to the CT45s and 60s . The bits can be hard to get hold of though. I got some in the US. Unlike the comparable Metz CT 60, you dont have a bulky great "potholler''s cell" battery slung round your waste, making you look like Buzz Lightyear. The batteries go in the silver module in front of the gun, 4 size C''s. Other power sources are available. I''d rather gone off nicads by the time of purchase. I''ve found this gun incredibly versitile. There are 7 heads. I have the zoom, which does 3 of them, the defusion and ring, with the filter set. I did try for the infra red but the dealer couldnt get hold of one. Manual stop down is down to 128th, and dedicated modules available for most makes. I got full TTL with mine. It was a lot better than the camera manufacturers offering and cheaper over all than buying a ringflash, dedicated hammerhead etc. I regularly used an ultra wide lens which covered 104 degrees, for professional shoots, and found this thing ideal for doing hotel and B&B dining rooms. I found the defusion head or the defusion filter did me proud. It has the reach for large rooms, the width of covberage for ANY lens, even fisheye, with the 360 degree defuser. Any form of zoom, bounce tilt or swivel, is available, with the close up capability of a specialist macro unit. I cant think of much more you could wish for, except possibly a small fill-in flash, like the twin head Metzs, but you can always do that some other way with a slave or such. I''ve found it indespensible and the envy of many a pro. Unheasitating recomendation. I always use it when Im asked to do something professionally.
ProsCons
Veristility, power, spread. Large collection of modules for all occasions. TTL shoe module makes it idiot proof.Bits and bobs can be hard to get hold of. I chased my second dedicated module half way round the moon before importing one from B&H in the US. Could the batteries have been fitted up the handle to save bulk?
