Tannoy Mercury MX4-M Speakers
I have owned a pair of these for a couple of years and run them from a cheap Sony amplifier (TA-FE570) which pushes 55 watts per channel I run a Sony turntable, NAD CD, Panasonic CD Writer and a Pure DAB/AM/FM tuner.
my speakers are in Cherry and I run them with front grilles on but rear sub woofer foam plugs removed stood 12 feet apart on firm carpet (provided floor spikes through to floorboards). I have them stood about 18 inches from the wall and my listening position is central to the speakers some 15 feet in fron of them. they are imposing without being too intrusive or bulky and the floor standing height is just right i.e. when I am sat my ears are about level with the speakers.
I have never had any trouble there is no warm up period or anything so long as the amp is not cold they just deliver - the speakers are rich, warm and responsive from lowest amplification and handle anything pumped out with consumate ease. I have not noticed any metallic or clipped sounds and even on high volumes the tonal balance is good. There is good detail to the delivered sound but not to the point of distracting, so very good for relaxed listening. That said I am a child of seventies rock (Sabbath/led zeppelin/jethro Tull etc.) so they also get an ocasional thrashing from vynil/CD or DAB planet Rock and they cope as easily with this as say Handel. I am wanting to upgrade my current system but suffice it to say - the speakers stay.
