Panasonic DVD-S35 - Still going strong

I purchased a Panasonic 32" CRT television over 6 years ago and this player was bundled with the TV. It has proved to be very reliable, playing rental and shop-bought DVD''s quite well. I have also successfully transferred camcorder footage onto DVD with my laptop, which also play well. The remote supplied with the machine is a little quirky - some of the main buttons are together in the middle of the remote, but in an odd order. I find using the buttons under the flap of the compatible Panasonic TV remote will suffice most of the time. The image quality for such an elderly DVD player is actually very good, surpassing normal terrestrial SD broadcast quality with ease. Sound is good through the optical output and amplified by my trusty Yamaha AV amp and Eltax surround speakers. Films with explosive soundtracks like U-182 and Star Trek are very involving, both visually and audibly. I have recently ordered a new Panasonic TX-L37D25B Tellybox, so I will wait and see if the old S35 player can still cut the mustard when connected to the new TV. I feel I may have put the S35 out to pasture after a few months and upgrade to Blu-ray! Verdict: A cheap, simple DVD player that may not be HD, but at least it is reliable and plays normal DVD discs very well.
ProsCons
Nice deep blacks and crisp whites Proper on/off button Adjustment for different aspect ratio Multi-Region hack now available (A bit of a faff tho) Plays DVD-RAM discs (Un-cartridged)Supplied remote a little fiddly Too old now to have HDMI - (Was it even invented when it was first made? I doubt it) Does not play VCD - but who cares?
