Well, I got this system as it was the only DVD system available in Sony for Car Head Unit. The sound is excellent and the navigation is very user friendly. When playing mp3 and DVD format it rocks specially when file is in 128 bit rate or higher.

Tuner automatically scans to perfect frequency and with good antenna it gives good sound. I had to switch to new antenna since my old one was not a good metal to catch the frequency.

Video with sub woofer will make a party in the car. It has a fan in the rear that keeps the unit cool. Other Sony version doesn't have this and the unit stops suddenly and can be switched on after 10minutes once its been
cooled.

Ok. But i got screwed after 15months when the DVD got stuck inspite i din't use the Disc much. It was not ejecting nor playing. When i took to service center they said that it needs a Disc mechanism replacement costing 40% of
the head unit cost.

This was the Sony MEX-R1 personal experience.
