I'm wanting to change to the Rancilio Silvia from my Solis 70. I've had it 5 years and love the coffee it makes.

I dont' love its plastic casing and the fact that the section surrounding the portafilter is cracking.

1. From your point of view, how do the Solis 70 & Silvia compare?

2. Since Silvia's water tank is metal-encased, does she signal when a refill is needed or does one have to be on the alert?

3. About the new plastic protective ring to ensure the portafilter is not cut...I'm assuming it will wear out eventually. Are replacements available?
