Hi there, on this machine can I record from old recorded VCR tape in EP mode onto DVD disc at EP SPEED the machine in question is DMR-EX85EB-S

In a word, Yes.

Just play your old tapes, feed into DVD recorder, set to EP mode. The quality will not be good, but just about watchable.
