Does this machine allow me to record one channel and watch another simultaneously?

Yep.
Can also record TWO different channels AND watch something previously recorded.

Hi, is the Harddrive ""Off"" when in standby mode. In other words does the Harddrive come ""On"" only when a pre-recorded or watched program starts. I have a ""Digihome"" PVR which has the Harddrive running ALL of the time, which is not what I require.
