When buying a washing machine there are many factors to take into consideration such as the spin speed, drum size, washing options, stability, cold or hot water fill and display to name just a few. The faster the spin speed on a washer the faster the water is extracted from the clothes and therefore the less drying time required. If you tend to wash more delicate items it will be worth looking for a washer with a variable spin speed enabling you to select the slower spin speed therefore protecting your clothes. The capacity of a washer or washer/dryer is important as this determines the amount of clothes you can load in one go and they mainly offer a 5kg or 6 kg load. All washing machines include a number of features and programes to help you get the best performance from your machine. The most useful to look out for are economy wash, silk wash, light load and hand wash. More sophisticated washing machines feature an LCD or LED display on the front which informs the user of time remaining, time delay countdown, current stage, selected programme adjustments and feedback on the current wash or dry programme. They can also include features such as Superior Build Quality which means that the manufacturer has carried out rigorous tests and continuously factory tested machines to ensure they will last therefore saving you money in the future. Anti-leak protection is present on certain Siemens washing machines and means that it will automatically shut down if it detects a leak. LG have created a feature called Steam Clean on their machines which combine steam and water throughout the wash, saving electricity and water. The steam not only reduces creases but also sterilises your clothes by eliminating bacteria through reaching temperatures of up to 99oC. All washing machine are graded A++ to G on wash performance, energy efficiency and spin efficiency with A++ being the most economical.
