Toshiba D XV45 160 Gb Dvd Vcr Hdd Recorder
User Reviews of the Toshiba D XV45 160 Gb Dvd Vcr Hdd Recorder
I bought this model to replace a VHS only model and was pleased with the quick automatic set up and ease of operation. Having an older style TV which does have a Scart socket there were intitial problems with the compatibility in that there is no RF Modulator (no I didn't know what that was either)installed, apparently a common feature, or should I say non feature, with modern machines. This had the effect of dominating the TV and only allowed the program being recorded to be viewed. Lazy solution was to remove the Scart plug from the back of the TV or switch off the Tosh but after some research I purchased an RF modulator for around £30 which was easily fitted I then tuned a spare TV channel into the Tosh's signal. This resolved the matter and all is well now. A more up to date TV is next on the shopping list. Overall a very good buy at a reasonable price.

Pros:
Intuitive set up, good quality sound and picture and the large hard Disk enabling recording of long TV programmes. Transposing VCR recordings to DVD with titles is a ral boon.
Cons:
No timer recording on the VCR only one touch record, however the Hard Disk or DVD replace the need for VHS recording. The maanual suggests checking there is sufficient space on the DVD before dubbing (copying)the planned recording but I've yet to find how one does this with any menu options.
