Toshiba 20WLT56 Lcd Tv
User Reviews of the Toshiba 20WLT56 20 in. LCD Television
Since writing the review on the unwatchable and apparently unrepairable Toshiba 20WLT 56B I finally contacted Toshiba technical help line to see if they could offer any suggestions. No they couldn''''t, however they have offered to swap my t.v. for the Toshiba 20 W330 free of charge and with a 3 month guarantee. I thought this was an excellent solution and the ''''new'''' set is due to arrive tomorrow via Parceline. This is a free service which they offer to customers who have experienced unusual faults soon after the initial guarantee has expired. Will it arrive tomorrow???
I''''ll let you know.

It arrived! The SWAP T.V. has arrived (2 days later than expected and at an extra cost to me of £11.75) but it looks good, appears quite new and is working perfectly at the moment. If it continues to work then the SWAP system with Toshiba has worked well. They collected my old set (keep your own remote don''t return this) and the new Toshiba HD Ready 20W330 is safely installed, complete with a 3 month guarantee. So if you have a problem with any Toshiba product, even if it is out of warranty give them a ring (prepare for a 20 -30 minute wait before they answer) and with a bit of luck they might offer you a free swap. Thanks Toshiba a great service.
Update on faulty screen Toshiba 20 WLt 56B

I also have the Toshiba 20WLT56, and when it was working it gave a good overall performance in respect of display and functions, with the exception of having to unplug at the mains to switch off. Nice styling, responsive remote and comprehensive manual, this TV was a solid performer allround, unfortunately I did say was. After just over 1 year the screen began to have multicoloured dancing vertical lines and no image, but audio was OK. Yes, this is now in a box having been replaced. I suspect that the LCD needs replacing and would be happy to replace it myself, but cannot locate a supplier of LCD. I would have given the model 8 out of 10 had it still been working, but I will not give it any rating, TV''''''''''''''''s used to last 8 years, and I will only look for manufacturers who will reflect their products with the warranty.
Pros:
Looks very nice and solid and a lovely black screen.
Cons:
When you switch it on after 1 Year
I bought the Toshiba LCD 20 WLT 56B about 18 months ago and for the past 7 months it has had a constant fault. The picture will suddenly change into a cascade of colours - mostly green and then if left becomes a negative. Despite 2 engineers and £100 later, the set appears to be unrepairable. The only cure appears to be banging the top of the tv cabinet hard and hoping the picture remains on long enough for me to see the end of the programme. Anybody else with the same problem and managed to solve it?
I bought this model only 16 months ago. It now lies useless due to "no picture" & advice that a repair would be "very expensive & probablt not worthwhle". Before it failed I was quite happy with picture, sound and facilities. But my advice isthat any buyer should take out insurance - or buy something else.
Pros:
Appearance & features such as p.i.p.
Cons:
It''s no use after only 16 months.

I bought the TV a year ago. It did not function straight out of the box. It is set up through the remote and I could not get it past the start up menu. The retailer replaced it with another new one the next day. Normally it works fine, but it does like the remote lined up accurately with the sensor. Every now and then it changes up a channel when you press to go down, or changes channel when you press the volume. Sometimes it freezes and will not turn off on the TV off button and must be switched off at the mains. This is still a problem, the remote has been changed to no effect. Toshiba came out today and said they would change the remote again. This is obviously not the problem or the set top buttons would work all the time, which they don''t. Setting up to record digital programmes is a pain, long winded and rquires 2nd scart lead. So awkward we rarely do it- must have that channel playing while you record. The screen width settings keep changing every time you change channel and will not hold on the preferred setting throughout. If this is what a quality brand TV is like I will buy an unknown brand for half the price and throw it away every two years. I cannot believe they put it out to ordinary coonsumers to test ease and quality of function. No, mate, not another Toshiba !
Pros:
Styling- thats all
Cons:
Remote control. Software design
I have just bought my Toshiba replacement after having a Humax which gave me problems from day one.I also have a Philips lcd but I much prefer the toshiba.I am over 70 and found it no problem to find my way around the various menus.Cant complain about the picture quality or the sound, the only slight thing I find is the stand feels a bit flimsy and the tv slightly leans forward, maybe its the weight doing that, but I intend to mount it on the wall.I would recommend this set.
PURCASED TV 6 DAYS AGO, AM VERY IMPRESSED WITH PICTURE QUALITY . VIEWING ANGLES ARE GREAT AS I HAVE PLACED TV IN SMALL CONSERVATORY.
THE SOUND QUALITY IS EXCELLENT, THIS WAS ONE OF MY CONCERNS AS I HAVE A SMALL LCD IN KITCHEN SOUND IS HOPELESS ON THAT ONE.
PICKING UP ALL DIGITAL STATIONS FIRST CLASS PICTURE FROM SMALL LOOP AERIAL.
WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS TV.
