Worst Sony DVD Recorder ever don''''''''t buy this
Angela Wright - 16/7/2007 2:28:43am
Both me and my Father purchased these DVD recorders from our local Sony Center. Mine started giving trouble after 3 weeks, the Date and time would change overnight from April 2006 to November 2006. Time 8 hours different as well. Sony Center gave me a replacement model and it seemed to be OK. My Fathers had worse problems the machine would not turn off you had to unplug it at the mains, the the disc would not load the draw just kept opening and closing nothing else. He took it back to Sony Center they had closed down gone bust it said. So he phoned Sony and he had to take it for a repair. The repair center said they had had 100''''''''s in all this model the main board was the problem. Whilst my Fathers machine was in for repair my replacement model had the same fault as my Fathers machine disc draw just opening and closing nothing would stop it unless you took plug out of wall. I took mine for repair. Both machines were in for repair for just under a month 28 days/29 days respectively. The repair was gauranteed for 1 year from repair date. 1 year and 1 week after my machine had been repaired my DVD recorder developed another fault it would not switch on and every thing just jammed. Unpluged it from wall and contacted Sony. 3 letters and 5 emails later I had not had any response from them, so I asked my local radio staition to help, I sent all corrospondance and extra printouts of reviews from other websites which backed up what a really poor Sony product this was as lots of other people had have the same problems. Sony did finally answer my letter about 10days after I had contacted the Radio station, they wanted receipt, copy of repair sending to them. I did this but I did not get a reply so I sent another letter, I did receive a letter back asking to take the machine to Eldon Square, Newcastle for a repair centre to look at it for me. Newcastle was 50 miles away from where I live. I rang Sony and I finally got in touch with a really nice man who said if I sent the machine back to them they would replace it with a brand new machine with built in freeview. This was completed in April this year 7 months after first contacting Sony. This is not what you come to expect of the Sony Company. If you don''''''''t want any headaches don''''''''t buy this model as it will fail. The model I have now is a RDR-GXD360 freeview and so far so good no problems at all. Hope it stays that way.
