User Reviews of the Sony CMT-CPZ1 Shelf System
SONYS LITTLE STAR SHINES THROUGH.

this sony set up is reasonable value for money considering its specification. It has an healthy power output thanks to its digital award winning S-Master amplifier which can produce powerful and tuneful bass, given suitable source material. Not the easiest kit to operate thanks to some fiddly cd controls, but once you get used to it its performance will surprise you despite its diminutive size. Not the best thing around at reproducing cdr and cdrw downloaded material but not much is at this price point. Speakers perform best about 3-4 feet with a little toe in and in free space, with the grilles removed.. Avoid putting any of the system on cheap shelves if you can to extract the best from it. All in all a cracking little unit which would be hard to beat at the price.
Pros:
Very compact size, clean power output.
Cons:
control buttons not the best quality around and can be fiddly to operate.

A great little set.

I originally bought the CPZ90DAB to replace my old HI-Fi, but being in a poor reception area, most DAB stations had a 'boiling mud sound' or nothing at all. With no provision for an outside aerial, I took it back to the shop and changed it (with a cash adjustment) for the CPZ1DAB. The results with a proper aerial are excellent and the sound quality from such a small unit and speakers is far better than my old separates system. However why does Sony supply such short speaker leads that are hard wired into the speakers, with a non-standard plug at the set end? I had to cut one lead and let a piece in to put the speaker the other side of the fireplace.
Pros:
Great sound
Cons:
Short speaker leads
