Samsung DVD SH853M Freeview Dvd Player With 160GB Hard Drive

I bought this model and think it''s brilliant. Some people say it''s complicated to learn, but you just need to sit down and go through each setting and practice. You are getting three devices in one, so expect to pay a little extra detail to instructions and testing each function. The freeview quality is excellent and all channels loading up correctly in about 3-4mins. The HDD is the best I''ve used and easy to navigate the timer settings once tried. The DVD player is also very good quality, no problems with sound or noise or lack of detail. The remote control could be better designed, some buttons are a tad small but it seems to work fine and is fairly responsive. The changing of freeview channels in the channels list menu could be slightly quicker but that''s the only real negative I can find. Highly recommend this model but just be patient and read the manual and practise.

Brought SH853M as i didn’t want to end up with a separate box for DVD and free view box. I been looking to buy a free view box for a while but the thought of having too many remotes put me off. SH853M is an easy unit to install. But the menu and firmware are simply awful. Even setting up a simple recording is a major task. It refuses to record a program while you are watching another. I mean how silly is that?.The whole idea of having a built-in hard drive is so you can record a program while you are watching another. The picture quality from the built-in digital tuner is worse then what I used to get with my vhs player. Picture keeps freezing , never got TV guide to work properly and the built-in DVD player can only write certain types of discs. I wasted a lot of money on write able dvd/cd before i realised it can only write DVD-R. I have contacted the shop i brought it from and i am trying to return it. Now I wish I never brought it.
