User Reviews of the Samsung RS21DCNS American Fridge Freezer
SAmsund Rs20
Nat - 9/6/2008 9:32:54pm
We have had our Samsung Rs20 (the one without the ice cube maker) for around the 4 year mark. We have had a very good 4 years and up till now was £800 well spent. First to go was the fridge and a day later the freezer decided to pack off to the freezer sky. I managed to get Samsungs number. At first they wasn''t for helping as it wasn''t the model featured on watchdog and they didn''t want to know. Remaining calm i explained under Trading Standards the fridge was not ''fit for purpose''. They came back to me and said as a good will guesture they will send an engineer free. So to those people who have the RS20 please ring Samsung uk and keep on at them. We did and i will post another review once the repair has been done to let everyone know how its going. Cheers Nat

Samsung SRS2028CVW
K. SMITH - 18/5/2008 4:50:20pm
Hi all, Unfortunately for me my warranty ran out in February of this year. We had just moved house and it took my partner and I this long to find the receipt with the extended warranty. We thought that it was well out of date so we didn''''t really search for it until the freezer went on the blink. My samsung makes a louding banging, cracking sound such as ice cracking and breaking in the fridge compartment. This has been going on for some months now but the major problem is the fact that the top half of the fridge doesn''''t keep food cool anymore. The feezer started just this month (May). The temperature display shows the fridge at 19 ̊ (degrees) celcius and the freezer at 1̊. When we first bought it the fridge was at a constant 1̊ and the freezer was -23̊ . I phoned Comet, who told me it would cost £115 just for a call out fee alone, this amount does not include parts or labour, I was told to phone Samsungs'''' customer services, which I did. Samsung gave me the number of a local engineer, who hasn''''t had the decency to ring me back!!! I have a medical condition that requires me to drink three litres of fluid per day (more in the summer), and that was one of the reasons for buying the fridge/freezer, water and ice on tap in one place. Great!!!
Pros:
Water and ice on tap, large capacity.
Cons:
Fridge is not keeping food cool neither is the freezer actually freezing food. Wouldn''''t buy this is you paid me.

Don''t Buy one!
Marie Walker-Endsor - 13/5/2008 1:45:57pm
I have had my Samsung for 3 years and 5 months now. I had to have an engineer out within the first 3 months of its life, to replace a major component which resulted in total faliure of both the fridge and the freezer. It took the repair company 8 days to attend my call, the whole of which time I had to make do without. Then, just after my 2 year warranty ran out, the fridge lost it''s power and was not running as cold as it should. The water stopped working also. I discovered then that not many companies will touch these fridge/freezers they just don''t like them. The only company prepared to come out wanted £100 call-out plus parts!! I made do with a cool bag in the fridge for a few months. Then I spoke to someone who had the same problem with theirs. I ended up buying a fan motor for around £30 and fixing the problem. I discovered that all of the bootom of the back of the fridge was iced over, this is where the water bottle also sits, hence the water not working. Fridge ran smoothly for the next 4 months, then the hot weather started and the fridge has now ceased to work properly again. I presume it is the same problem, although I am now not convinced that the motor I replaced was actually broken. These fridge/freezers have been featured on Watchdog, apparently there is a manufacturing fault which means that the cooling does not function properly. My Fridge/Freezer cost almost £1000 3 years ago, what a waste of money. Considering cutting my losses and buying something different. In short, don''t bother, they are more trouble than they are worth!!!
Pros:
none
Cons:
Continually breaking down, expensive repair bill when out of warranty.

RS21DCNS
Roy Vaughan - 10/5/2008 2:48:12pm
Just read all these reviews after my wife telling me what out neighbours saw on Wachdog! We have owned ours for the last 16 months, the first call out was in January this year when the whole thing shut down and the display panel didnt seem to work. Ours started getting noisy about a week after we bought it and we just accepted that it was vibration inside and wouldnt be able to do much about it. 2 days ago, the water dispender stopped working and the fridge has stopped working, and that horrible noise was happening when you open the fridge door. I knew it was potentially a problem with ice around the fan, so turned it off for 24 hours, started it back up, and shortly after it started again. I read another review saying that if you run the fridge at 5 degrees it will solve the problem. The point is that the recommended running temperature of a fridge (issued by the health and safety executive) is 3 degrees. Clearly, this is a significant problem, and for Watchdog to use it as a feature means its serious. Maybe Samsung think they can fob us off because we''re British and dont know how to complain? As others have already mentioned, it looks superb, but we didnt buy it to look at!!
Pros:
Looks stunning, nice to have ice cold water and Ice on tap
Cons:
noisy unreliable We dont trust it anymore, we dont feel like we could leave £200 worth of food in it and leave the house for a few days.

Houses are Over Insulated???
EoC - 18/4/2008 8:00:80pm
Not sure about the Over-Insulated theory. Are you suggesting that we live in an ice-box just so our Fridge Freezer works? If this Over-Insulated theory were correct would not all fridges have the same problem? Sorry but Samsung should build fridges that work in Over-Insulated houses if that''s what the issue is. I had mine for two years before it packed in with the cooling issue. Cost €228 to fix as I was out of warranty. Thank God I kept the receipt. Was onto Samsung yesterday so hopefully I''ll get this money back. I''ll keep you posted. Regards EoC
Pros:
Cooling problem overrides any good points as reliability is most pertinent factor.
Cons:
Cooling issue.....

SAMSUNG FAULTY ( NOT )
R600A - 10/4/2008 5:54:16pm
The RS21 range of american style fridge freezers are not as faulty as you seem to have made out.The WATCHDOG so called expert wouldnt know a cod fillet if it hit him in his face. The most common cause of the problem is due to the over insulation of properties..lack of air flow equals high humidity equals more moisture in the fridge compartment which in turn causes more problems. The lack of the local engineers knowledge is also a big problem as they dont know how or what to fix as they do not know the appliance even when they have been offered FREE training. The easy way out for them to say" heap of c$%p cant be fixed scrap it,This doesnt do you as the consumer or the retailer or manufacturer any good.Yes I am an engineer and yes I do know what I am talking about as I have been working on these appliances for years as well as other manufacturers...At least Samsung have extended the warranty which is a hell of a lot more than any other manufacturer that has major problems.
Pros:
Direct engineers from samsung know the appliances and normally repair within 2 days without repeat visits
Cons:
Yes cost of filter is high but better quality than most

Faulty fridge
Arthur Alexander - 7/4/2008 8:42:10pm
I bought my RS21DCNS over five years ago and had a problem with a high temperature in the fridge section. Local fridge engineers wouldn''t come to look at the fridge when I told them it was a Samsung and the best idea was to through it away, I decided to look at it myself. I defrosted the fridge, replaced the fan motor, reset the running fridge temperature to degrees and I aven''t had any trouble since. It would appear that running it at 5 degrees solves the problem of icing up
Pros:
Ice on call 24 hours a day
Cons:
high cost of replacing water filter

evaporator sensor
samsung expert - 3/4/2008 8:26:12pm
the problem with the fridge is the evaporator sensor fails which causes over freezing on the evaporator.this will cause your fan to stop, elements to burnout and thermal fuse to blow. the best engineers that know the samsung american fridge freezer all work for british gas ,as second line engineers.they are refrigeration experts.i hope this helps.

Don''t buy one, mine breaks every six months
GRAHAM NICHOLS - 21/3/2008 10:19:53pm
Same problems with cooling system. First went wrong under warranty, fixed by Comet engineer who replaced one of two thermal fuses located next to each cooling radiator in both compartments. Out of warranty now so I keep thermal fuses in stock and change them in about 15 mins. Easy repair but a pain and why? It''s the only fridge that I have owned that has failed, the others I replaced because they looked out of date or the interiors became shabby after about 10 years. Thermal fuses cost about £15 each!!!! Can temporarily keep it going by switching it off every 45 mins for 15mins using a 24hour timer.

Looks good, ice dispenser, water dispenser

Samsung RS20CCMS1 American fridge freezer
Bernard Schollar - 16/3/2008 5:37:29pm
I bought a Samsung American-style fridge freezer from Comet. It was great for 2 years. I was so pleased with it. Then at 2 years and 2 months old, food in the freezer thawed, especially noticeable with ice-cream. I contacted Samsung who told me to turn it off for 24 hours, this I did, worked for a while and food thawed out again. Freezer temperature varied between 0 - +4. Fridge was working OK so for several months, we managed with just the fridge. Then suddenly the fridge temperature jumped to +8 - +13, so we started using the freezer as the fridge. This fridge freezer is a pile of junk and I would not recommend anyone to buy it. Neither Samsung nor Comet want to know about it. This item cost £800 and lasted just over 2 years. Previous fridge-freezers have cost under £200 and lasted me 8 years or more.

Samsung American Fridge Freezer RS21 JBLG
John Allcott - 15/3/2008 4:08:45pm
My fridge freezer was just outside of the 2 year warranty when a fault occured causing it to trip the mains when we were on holiday, so the freezer had defrosted on our return. When we switched it back on, after a few days, it was terribly noisy. We were told by Samsung to switch it off for 24hours, so it would clear!!!!! When the engineer called out I had to pay out just under £300 for a repair/replacement to the refridgerator cooling unit. I''ve had exactly the same fault as others on this site. Clearly there is a design fault which Samsung are aware of. Samsung are not interested and their customers services are unhelpful. Freezers/Refrigerators are highly reliable appliances and Samsung are clearly not in this category

Save your money, don''t buy this rubbish
mrs Diane Neish - 6/3/2008 9:09:57am
We too bought this model 18 months ago and i''m actually sitting here waiting for the engineer to arrive to fix the fridge yet again. We have had the engineer out four times in 18 months, thank goodness we took out a 5 year warranty,we told samsung we wanted a new fridge but they said the engineer had to write a report first, and it had to be the same fault every time,we said it was,as it is always the cooling system, they replaced it 6 months ago and it has frozen up again.we too were told to turn it off for 24hrs,which is a joke as it is totally missing the point of having a fridge freezer. There should have been a recall on this product long ago, I don''t know how they get off with this.
Pros:
it works for 5 months before breaking down ha ha.
Cons:
stops working every 6 months and usually just when you have done a big shop.

Buzzing Samsung RS21
Kay - 11/2/2008 1:33:11pm
Our Samsung RS21 started buzzing 11 months after we buoght it. The freezer continued working but the fridge stopped. The engineer said the problem was that the fan had iced up. He replaced it but said that switching it off and defrosting the fridge would have brought it back to life. He said he had been called out to this type of problem many times. Said we were lucky as it usually happens after one year warranty ahs expired.

disgusting problems with samsung fridge
jac - 8/1/2008 9:55:44pm
i have owned a samsung SR-S2029css for 7 years now. its now finally packed up, after a droning.buzzing loud noise. 3 call outs to Comet engineers where i took out a 4 year extended warranty. now they blatantly refuse to come and repair as warranty is over, the freezer section working fine. its so silly and i believe like for the other online reviews, there is a design error in it. i loved the fridge but am disappointed with it now and looking fior ways to get rid of it. any suggestions from any kind soul what the faukt could be? its the cooling system that seems to have failed again, then it keeps making the alert sound as if the door is opened, then loud buzzing. will be grateful for any ideas on how to proceed. all repairers contacted cant do samsung american fridges which i find wierd. ta

Don''t join the ''Buzz Club''!!!!
sue Barker - 27/7/2007 8:59:46am
I have just sat ploughing through the online reviews from other frustrated Samsung Fridge owners who, like me, have expensive repairs to face yet again. It is clear that we are all victims of a serious design fault which Samsung continue to ignore. Their Customer Serv ices Dept simply don''t want to know once the item is out of warranty. Well, I fully intend to make them sit up and listen. I have retained the faulty cooling system which packed up after 2 years and will produce it in Small Claims Court if I have to together with the one installed just a year ago which is now droning/buzzing - a sure sign that the end is in sight. Where are Trading Standards on this one. Perhaps they will be my first port of call!

Looks great but don''t buy!!!!!!
Steve Beard - 1/7/2007 9:16:30pm
These are fantastic until they go wrong. Mine started making a terrific noise after a few months. The repair man said they have a design fault and fitted a new cooling unit. The fault returned a few months later. This time I was told to turn it off and defrost for 24 hours whenever this happens. Again the noise returned within a few days. Now Samsung don''t want to know. They have advised me to sue the retailer - they say I would have a strong case for saying that I have been sold goods that were "not fit for purpose"! Bizarre!!!!! My advise is don''t touch Samsung if you expect any level of customer care!!!!!

Looks nice for a pile of scrap.

Samsung American Fridge

this item is an excellent buy, mine has the added advantage of having a small door in the fridge, so every day items can be taken out without affecting the internal temp. i have owned my fridge for 2 years, and never had a problem yet. if you are looking for a fridge freezer that is both practical and good looking, look no further once you have water and ice on tap you will never want anything less.
