Samsung LE40R74BDX Lcd Tv
User Reviews of the Samsung LE40R74BDX 40 in. LCD Television

I purchased this TV when it was brand new from the high street. It cost £1500, and was less than £800 six months later. Aarrgghh!! Depreciation is incredible. Picture is great, lots of little gimmicks - which most people will probably only use once - and plenty of settings for an individual taste. TV looks great, and would look at home in any location in your house. One major problem with this TV - the sound. It simply has no depth, or richness, and sounds tinny and weak. At higher volumes, there is a discernable buzz. It wasn''''t long before I bought a seperate speaker system, which has transformed the sound. If you include that, the whole package cost me £2000. Would buy from Samsung again, but not brand new.
Pros:
Picture quality
Numerous settings
Looks fantastic
Latest technology
Cons:
Sound quality atrocious
Depreciation - lost half of its value in less than a year
Purchased this 40" TV on the high street (during the sales) and I have to say it performed as well as it looks. Easy auto set up with free view (DTV) and analogue signals. Also simple to connect and select external inputs (I'm using a sky box & separate PVR).
Can't fault it on any level. There were some comments about issues with the sound from some reviews, but this particular TV has not suffered at all.
Sound is not as rich as you might hope and for the full effect, you will need a separate surround system. Curiously enough, Samsung make a matching surround sound unit !
If you'rein the market for an excellent TV that looks as goog on or off, this is for you - especially now the price has dropped significantly !!
Pros:
Picture / ease of use / shiny black look
Cons:
No on screen clock !

I recently brought this model and I am very pleased with it. I paid £1120 delivered which I think is excellent VFM particularly as they still retail in the shops at £1499. The TV looks great but when I first set it up I was really disappointed with the picture quality - lots of shadows etc.
However, once I adjusted the settings (and there are a few of them) I got a great picture. Make sure you spend time adjusting the colour / brightness / contrast / game mode / energy saving / digital noise reduction / sharpness etc etc. On standard settings the picture was pants, but after 15 mins of messing around everything is perfect!
The sound is fine for the TV, but like me, I guess most people buying a tele this size will run a home cinema set up so its not that important anyway.
