What a waste of money
J Cuthel - 5/1/2009 10:10:00am
As the reviews below already state - it seems the prestige fridge freezer is unable to control the temperature properly and now our fridge does not work at all and it is only 17 months old! Since we''ve had it there has always been a problem with the fridge or freezer whereby the temperature slowly creeps above a safe standard. Needless to say food does not last as long as it should. We noticed it was worse when we placed food in from our monthly/weekly shop and it seemed to take ages for the temperature to normalise. However by far the worst was last week (31st Dec) when we woke up to the find the fridge temperature had crept up to 18C with the door shut! And it has not gone down since - we can''t believe it as we had over £120 of food in the fridge and freezer alone. We desperately tried to put as much food in the freezer as possible but low and behold the freezer could not handle it and decided to defrost itself. So basically a large proportion of our food has now gone off and we are stuck without a fridge and are trying to keep the remaining food by the window to keep cool. I am really disappointed as not only have we wasted money on food, we cannot to afford to buy a whole new fridge freezer the week after christmas. I am in disbelief that this item has been such a waste of money and has such a short shelf life!
Pros:
Space and layout
Cons:
Temperature control of both fridge and freezer Food not lasting long Ice formation at back of vegetable storage in fridge - freezes some items

fridge freezer review

Like the last review, the fridge freezer is only just out of the guarantee. (14 months old). Whats more frustrating is the fact that we bought this appliance on credit and are still paying for it. From day one there has always been some sort of problem with the temperature going down without the doors being opened causing the alarm to go and ice on the back wall of the fridge. Now the temrperature of the freezer is at 23 degrees and the fridge at five. After speaking to an independent fridge engineer we were advised it probs has a gas lea and its not worth repairing. Again like the last review, the appliance looks brand new and so stylish but just sits in the kitchen whilst we find a new one.

I bought this fridge freezer in June 2007 I have had the same problems as your previous review as the fridge is over 1 year old I was informed by Comet it is out of guarantee I do not feel I should spend more money on repairs as it probably will not last ,so it stands in my kitchen as an ornament until I can replace it .

Prestige PRT325FFCS Fridge Freezer

After searching long and hard for our ideal Fridge freezer we thought we had found it with this model. It had the large Fridge that we wanted, with a very practical layout. Three drawers for Salad/Fruit in the bottom, a bottle rack and 4 adjustable glass shelves. The door layout is very flexible allowing for storage of two tiers of large bottles if required and numerous other small containers all adjustable. We couldn''t find another product so practical or adaptable. The freezer compartment was plenty large enough for our needs having three slide out clear drawers. We ordered ours from Comet, who have been very good with their service throughout.

The problems began after about a week when we couldn''t get the salad drawers to come out. This was because ice had formed on the back wall of the Fridge and glued them in! Ironic for a frost free unit. We reported the fault to Comet who sent out an engineer. He said the construction was probably faulty with the freezer elements too close to the back wall causing the icing. The Fridge Freezer was duly exchanged. The next one lasted just one day. The Freezer would not go down below minus eleven degrees and the Fridge went UP 4 degrees from 19 to 23!! Same procedure as above and this one was also exchanged. Third time lucky we thought. The next one took ages to cool the Fridge but eventually settled at plus 3 degrees, where we had set it. However, we watch the temperature indicator go up from 3 to 9 or 10 at regular intervals, this without opening the door! They now tell us that the auto defrost is probably faulty so it looks like a full refund and a swop to another make is on the cards. Such a pity that a great looking machine is ruined by atrocious build quality - doesn''t anyone test these machines? Also who are Prestige? where are they based and how do you contact them? The internet gives no clues, presumably it is just a brand name stuck on another manufacturers product. We would like to contact them to discuss how their marvellously designed product is being ruined by sloppy build.
