Praktica Slimpix
User Reviews of the Praktica Slimpix

I bought one of these for my daughter, fundamently because it was pink, but also because of large 2 inch screen, 5 megapixels and the fact it was small enough to fit in her little hands and looked easy to use, all for under £50. In reality, the images are poor, however you change the settings. The batteries are drained after about 20 pictures if you use the flash, which, at its best, takes at least 40 second to set and won''t at all if the power falls below 3 bars out of 3. As always, nothing is ever as good a bargain as it seems!

This is a very poor product. It''''''''''''''''s cheap - that''''''''''''''''s why I bought it. But cheap is as cheap does. I have taken over 100 indoor photos and they have all come out blurred. Very annoying when you are trying to capture a special moment. Outdoor photos are adequate but as soon as you get sunlight on the viewfinder you cannot see what you are shooting. I feel conned by this product - I thought I was buying something that I could just point and shoot but that is quite obviously not the case. Avoid this at all costs. I bought my daughter a similar camera for about £10 more and it is 100 times better.
I bought this camera just over a year ago and have had decent results on the whole in daylight conditions but results varying from acceptable (just) to poor in darker conditions. I find it difficult to control the camera shake and often despite my best efforts pictures end up blurred in darker conditions. As I partly bought it to use for taking pictures at gigs I find this rather disappointing. It also eats batteries like nobodys business.
However, my main gripe with it is due to my having recently to change my computer (because of an uncontrollable virus) from XP to Vista. I have found out that the loading disc that came with the camera is incompatiable with Vista. As I usually load all my pictures straight onto my computer to put on various websites, as well as to keep on Photobucket for my own pleasure I was very disappointed to say the least. I just wanted to make potential buyers of this product aware of this.
I will say that on the whole for just taking simple outdoor pictures it does represent good value for money and is simple to use, but if you are taking indoor pictures I do not believe that the flash is adequate on it
Pros:
Nice design.
For simple outdoor photography it represents good value for money.
Cons:
Incompatiability with Vista.
Flash is not adequate for darker conditions
Difficulty in controlling camera shake

Praktica SlimPix 5200 - Not as Good as it First Seems
Lisa Reynolds - 3/1/2008 7:45:28pm
Pros:
Size
2" screen
Simple menus
Cons:
Picture quality
Battery power
Time taken to power up flash
The camera is excellent value for money and easy to use. However I find that the view on the monitor screen cannot be seen very good in daylight. Is there any way to adjust the screen resolution. Not the photoghraphs; the TFT monitor screen.
Pros:
none
Cons:
TFT screen resolution is very poor in daylight.
