Review
Pioneer have rolled out a whopping 50 inch Plasma TV with flawless specifications and spectacular results. Here, we take a look at the Kuro PDP-LX5090 and begin to drool......
The design is obviously the first noticeable feature which screams class at you from every angle. The smart glossy black finish and chunky solid stand create a modern marvel with discrete LED lights in the corner to let you know of the TV's status. These lights can be dimmed but not turned off completely, which may annoy a few.
Features
To match the stunning design and to prove that beauty is not just skin deep, Pioneer has included some amazing features. These include, 1080p, 24fps, True Cinema or HD Digital Film Direct 24, Extreme Contrast Ratio, Integrated Digital DVB-T and Analogue Tuner, Ultra Black Panel (Kuro), Signal Processing Drive, i-Clear Drive, Dynamic HD Converter, Intelligent Mode, Block Noise Reduction and PureCinema along with many more. The sound is provided by an SRS WOW HD, SRS (Surround), SRS Focus, SRS TruBass and SRS Definition, so as you can see a lot of focus has gone towards the sound you will receive from this Plasma, where others have lacked. Connectivity has not been scrimped on either and provides 3 HDMI's (although all are at the rear and not at the side which, with a screen this size could be a bit bothersome), 3x Euro-SCART, PC Input, USB Input as well as all the other usual connections.
Performance
So, as you can see, so far so good with the Pioneer PDP-LX5090 and as we get down to putting it into action, we begin to see that this Plasma can perform. As Pioneer named its new series of Plasma TV's, Kuro, meaning black in Japanese, the black levels really must impress and they most certainly do with amazing detail and deep shadowing. There was no sign of any grey levels and on a TV of this size we expected see a slight degree of detail loss, but it was all there and bright as a button. Colours are displayed in the same way, with stunning clarity and detail and all with the Optimum mode set so there was no messing around adjusting the brightness or contrast. Sound was beautiful and clear with good bass levels, improved slightly by a good Home Cinema System, but not entirely necessary.
Overall Opinion
We highly recommend the Pioneer PDP-LX5090 Plasma TV due to its stunning appearance, great features and outstanding performance. There were a few slight thoughtless flaws that should have been corrected, but if you are seriously looking to buy a TV of this size, those small extras really shouldn't sway your decision. Great for movie buffs and a must have for all the gamers out there.
