User Reviews of the Philips DVDR3300H DVD Recorder
Time and date

I''ve had this machine for a year or so now and on the whole I think it is very good. You can''t, however, edit recordings on the hard drive which is an inconvenience. My main complaint is that it keeps on - and I mean keeps on - losing the time and date. This means that I frequently lose timer recordings. When I set the timer (mainly for things in the early hours of the morning) the time and date are definitely and absolutely correct but when I go to find my programme to watch it hasn''t recorded. Somewhere between setting the timer and the recording time it loses the date and time!!!! This is is maddening to say the least! To make things worse you have to unplug the machine to change the time, otherwise it won''t keep the change. I was told that by a Philips representative when I emailed them.
Pros:
none
Cons:
Timer recording and loss of date and time

A good reliable machine

Admitedly at first the concept of this machine is strange but once you understand it it all makes sense. My main intention when buying this machine was to use it as a HDD recorder and in this role it excels. It has a modern design and I like the big blue and red lights ;-) I rarely burn to DVD but usually record, watch it and then delete. It's reliable and does its job well. Worth the money in my opinion
Pros:
Nice design performs well fast quiet
Cons:
You need to read the documentation to fully understand the recording concept of this machine Only allows a maximum of 8 predefined recording slots

Weird concept philipsdvdr3300h

It does not record direct to DVD, the word recorder should allow me to record, can''t transfer recorded items from a dvd to the hard disk?! called philips to find that you CANNOT record direct to dvd!! or transfer to hard disk from dvd!! if my hdd is full of progs i don't want to delete, what then, there is a prog on and I can''t record it!! i could transfer some progs to dvd rw disks then recopy them back to the hdd, but hang on I can't, because the unit won't allow it! pointless. i am very bemused, very, sigh! if you use the recorder at night close your curtains! the BLUE light on the front which is a power on/timeshift light is so bright it's unbelievable, so bright it actually looks blurred, I was scared i'm directly below a flight path! Don't buy it!!! end of!!
Pros:
quiet unit. the timeshift that allows you to rewind and then record progs you''ve missed, not all machines can do that.
Cons:
no merge function(merge two progs/scenes together) not able to record direct to dvd not able to re transfer progs from dvd to hdd You thought xenon bulbs were bright, you''ve not seen this unit switched on!
