User Reviews of the Nikon Macro Speedlight Sb 29 Ttl Ring Light Flash
Nikon Speedlite SB29 TTL Ring Light Flash

The Nikon SB29 flash is not a true ringflash. It would be more accurate to describe it as a macro copy light. The two flash tubes are set at opposite sides of the lens axis and although it provides even side-to-side illimination (or top-to-bottom if the unit is rotated 90 degrees) the lighting is not completely flat. There is also the option of masking each side to provide more contrasty lighting for texture enhancement. I have sucesfully used the SB29 in medical applications, e.g. dental and other intra-oral techniques, where the even light effectively illuminates the oral cavity. In these situations, the unit was operated using the manual setting. with the power set at 1/4 i achieve exposures of f32 at close proximity to the subject. I have not explored the TTL capabilities. On the plus side, there is a focusing light, but converseyl the coiled cable can fall forwards and obscure the front lens element. All in all a good buy.
