User Reviews of the Nikon D200 Body Only Digital Camera
Nikon D200

For all but the most picky of pro users, this camera comes close to 35 mm film "quality" in all areas except one. This exception is the ability to handle very dark and bright shades in the same scene, however most digital camera's have this problem. The camera handles like a traditional film camera.
Pros:
Not perfect, but very close. Overall a good photographic tool with good handling and enough custom functions to tailor the camera to your style of shooting and the ability to over-ride the built in defaults when they don't suit you. Wireless I-TTL works very well, and you can use older manual focus lenses. Very good build quality, though the battery door could be a bit more substantial.
Cons:
The cameras exposure system seems to work overtime to keep highlights well exposed, sometimes to the detriment of the overall image. The "default" sharpening is probably on the low side and many users may want to set it up a level. The built in screen default brightness fools you into thinking the image is brighter than it is, I have set the brightness to -2 to compensate for this. Nikon should be ashamed of the software supplied with this camera, its all but useless for anyone who takes their photography seriously. You will need to buy a spare battery or the optional battery pack (which takes 6 AA batteries as well as the Nikon batteries) because the battery won't last more than 1/2 days use, especially if you check the images on the screen after every shot.
