Lite On Hd A740GX DVD Player
User Reviews of the Lite On HD-A740GX

I''ve had this for 3 months now and use it with the RGB input and freeview box, its own analogue tuner (with Video+), and the composite input on the input SCART for transcribing my old family videos. I don''t have DV.
It takes a few seconds to boot. The SCART loopthrough facility (read the manual!) allows you to put the unit into standby without losing picture from the SCART device.
Ther''s no transcoding between recording qualities, but there are built-in facilities to split, merge, hide chapters, etc. (I have managed to create one DVD that nothing else will play, citing "navigation error".)
It automatically inserts chapter marks at a configurable interval; you can delete or add them. The DVD record format on DVD+RW is DVD-VR, which some DVD players will not auto-play - you may have to go into the player Title menu and find the items to play.
Mine will now not play a couple of commercial DVDs, so will be going back for exchange when I''ve offloaded my recordings.
Pros:
Quieter than my VCR and so much easier to use.
RGB SCART input and output.
Cons:
To erase a recording you must choose Contents, navigate to the correct page(latest is last!), select, Edit, Erase, confirm - safe but long-winded.
Fantastic buy - did lots of research prior to my purchase from SVP Communications in Paignton for £166. Setup was extremely easy to follow and the recorder menus are easy to follow. Quality is superb. Other wise FANTASTIC purchase and extremely happy. Searched Google for the multi-region hack and worked fine.
Pros:
Ease of setup, menus and playback quality are excellent and easy to use.
Cons:
Only one slight critism is that the hard drive and DVD read can be a little noisy at times.

This dvd/hdd recorder is great. My previous one, Packard Bell EHR2080, was a nightmare to work then went faulty. The manual explained most things clearly. It is very quiet and almost instant switch on for Video Plus recordings. Can transfer from dvd to hard drive and vice versa, plays just about everything. Has DV connection at front to connect digital cameras etc.. Very pleased with it.

Pros:
Easy of use. Very quiet. Picture quality good even in EP setting.
Cons:
Unable to watch a dvd on it when it's recording. A couple of things missed out of manual ie, how to delete a recorded program from the Timer list.
