User Reviews of the LG DR289H
LG DR289H DVD Player does everything I wanted

I wanted to transfer my VHS tapes to DVD and initially bought a (£100) combi in the expectation that the DVD copies would be virtually as good as the original VHS tapes. The copies were rubbish and I obtained a refund the next day. I decided I may be better using my ''old'' VHS player and connecting it to a DVD player/recorder so I bought this LG DR289H five months ago (£100) specifically to transfer VHS tapes to DVD. It worked straight from the box and was easy to connect up especially with having AV inputs on the front panel for convenience in connecting VHS player & camcorders. It has a comprehensive instruction manual but after using the separate ''quick setup guide'' I haven''t referred to it as the onscreen menus are intuitive and quick to use. I use DVD+R and DVD+R/W discs and am happy with the quality of recording at SP and LP settings (there are two further even longer play modes but I haven''t tried them). I am delighted that it also plays home movie DVDs that I have edited and burned on my PC. I have experienced only one ''glitch'' in five months - it failed to respond to the remote or any direct button pressing one evening and I was a bit concerned but switching it off and on again at the mains (I normally leave it on standby) rectified whatever was wrong and the interruption of power did not affect the tuner or clock settings. This machine has other capabilities beyond those that I need but I consider it to be excellent value for money even for me.
Pros:
Decent quality recording. Plays DVDs burned on PC. Front inputs AV / DV / USB.
Cons:
Lots of key presses to input titles for burned DVDs but I think this is pretty usual.
