Jvc Gr D340 Mini Dv Camcorder
User Reviews of the JVC GR-D340 Mini DV Digital Camcorder
Before I bought it I could find lots of reviews - now I have it I can't!
If you're paying £200 then you can't expect too much. I primarily bought to use at a friend's wedding so the zoom is ok when you can keep it stable and the sound is excellent, even within a church or whatever room is used for the reception. The zoom is potentially excellent for the money but you do need a decent quality tripod - the one I picked up for SLR cameras about 15 years ago works well with digital cameras but is no good for this camcorder.
It is touch and play - you don't need to read the manual too much, although the bottom-loading cassettes can be a problem.
I believe it comes with different modes and effects but they never made much difference as far as I could see and in any case it's better to do your editing on the computer anyway.
As always you will need the extra batteries and a cable to connect directly to your computer.

Pros:
The sound is excellent, it recorded 2 amplified performances for me perfectly
It's best if you want to shoot things on the fly and make a composite video later rather than long shots as the camera shake is visible
Cons:
The zoom lacks a certain range
Battery time
Bottom loading
