DANGER = FIRE HAZARD!!!
February 8, 2010 5:20:43pm
Indesit IS60V - Indesit say: "it''s only expected to last 2 years anyway"!!!??? Ours went up in smoke after 18 months....poor design means that most fluff bypasses the ''fluff filter'' and ends up coating the whole of the internals INCLUDING HEATER ELEMENT resulting in FIRE!!! Indesit ARE AWARE of this fault but refuse to RECAL this model. Just wait until they get sued!!! Be careful if you use one and it is over 12 months old!!!
Pros and cons by tom
Pros: Cheaper than some
Cons: Fluff filtering...it fails badly over a few months (FIRE RESULTS).

Fire Hazzard
September 1, 2009 0:33:30am
We have had this dryer for 18 months and had no problems with it. Untill this afternoon when the fire brigade had to be called out as the dryer caught fire. t had only been on for 5 minutes and i sensed a awful smell, upon investigation in the utility room found the dryer on fire by the filter part that you take out daily and also had flames comming out of the back, I do quite often leave the dryer on and go to bed, thankfully we were home and able to extingush the flames before the arrival of the emergency services, so my advice is if you value your home and your family''s lives give this one a miss.

Poor dryer made to not last
January 20, 2009 10:27:40am
Bought the product as we believed INDESIT to be a reputable company!? I don''t like a lot about the machine save it worked reasonably well for 12/13 months...Then, guess what? the guarantee ran out and the machine started to play up. A sock got stuck in the smallest of gaps between drum and inner casing...the drum starting grating and the smell of burning started to fill the house. Fortunately we were in at the time so were able to stop what i believe could''ve turned into a fire. Have had top of machine off to find loads of fluff and lint(?) around drum and inner parts. Cleaned this up and re-ran machine. Grating sound reduced but, alas, clothes still getting stuck and damaging garments. Spoke with an engineer and one time indesit employee who revealed that for about 3 to 4 years indesit have been using the wrong fork lift truck in warehouse which has led to internal damage to numerous models of dryers and other appliances. Really, really fed up with companies of this nature that churn out cheap and nasty machines without any honesty being shown when repairs/guarantees are made. Have spoken with indesit who have cleverly made their repair charges so near to the price of replacement machines that making good my dryer would be a waste of money, time and effort.

IS60v - don''t buy one!

The design of this machine is as bad as it gets. The front of the drum leaks air and therefore fluff furiously, resulting in it accumulating in the void and consequential damage. It''s a swine to strip (cut hands and expletives). I now need a new heater which is priced at a third of what we paid for thing new. The only saving grace is that the heater is attached to the rear, unlike our previous machine, which had the heater buried in the depths.
Pros and cons by Philip
Pros: I can''t think of anything good about this machine.
Cons: The design.

Indesit IS60V Shortcomings
November 2, 2008 1:24:30pm
Our machine has recently stopped working. Electrical buzzing sound, drum not rotating and smell of burning. Machine 2 to 3 years old and heavily used. On investigation ( I''m an electrical maintenance engineer), by removing the top, 2 screws and pull, I found that the space between the casing and drum was packed with fluff. I removed it in handfulls and with a vacuum cleaner. I could then see that the front bearing system had failed. Fluff had entered the heater duct and showed signs of combustion. The motor had overheated and had damaged its insulation resulting in loss of torque. My wife regularly cleaned the fluff filter and we were oblivious to the accident that could have happened. Internally the machine is badly designed. Indesit should put out a clear warning fully explaining the dangers of this machine and how it must be maintained. The handbook information is inadequate.

Pros: Cheap but nasty and simple
Cons: Fire risk

Tumble dryer FIRE!
April 13, 2008 10:39:47pm
Our INDESIT tumble dryer caught light. Luckily we were in the house and noticed the smoke (no smoke alarm in the kitchen - now there is!). A design flaw means that dust and fluff leaks from the filter and settles inside the dryer close to the heater element. This caught light in ours - lots of embers and smoke. In particular dust collected behind the rear of the drum at the hot air vent. I expect that dust caught light on the element and was blown onto this other collection of dust. The rear seal was damaged by the fire. If you have one of these tumble dryers and value your house either bin it or get someone to remove the dust at regular intervals, especially the region as above. As it is a design fault, it is likely that you too will have a fire. Next time I''''ll spend a little more and will get a proper brand.
Pros and cons by Martin
Pros: May dry clothes well for a month or two before the fire.
Cons: Likely to cause a fire.

Shoddy build quality = Fire hazzard
January 25, 2008 5:14:58pm
Machine operated strictly i.a.w. mfgs instructions but after 18 months of (noisy) operation it started smoking. Took the top off and found the carcass full of fluff which had found it''s way into the heater elements and started smouldering. Removed 2.5 shopping bags full of fluff, vacuumed the thing out and now repeat this every six months. :( Cured the noise by changing the bearing plates at the front of the drum - plenty of info on the web on how to do this. :) OK if you are a white goods technician but don''t let it out of your sight when it''s running. Wouldn''t recommend it for a busy mum and DEFINITELY don''t let it run over night. This thing''s a potential killer.
Pros and cons by Bob Hobbs
Pros: Cheap and cheerful.
Cons: Fluff leaks out of poorly designed vent system into machine body. Poor build quality.

Indestit.....INDEBIN!
June 8, 2007 12:34:22pm
Pathetic door lock broke just weeks after installation. The £35 replacement is exactly the same rubbish quality build. Tiny piece of plastic (and I mean tiny) designed to take the force of the door opening and closing on it. Useless piece of junk after a couple of weeks. Steer clear of Indesit......now Indebin.

DO NOT BUY!!!!

Went through two brand new machines in one week. Total drying time 40mins. Bad build quality. Traped clothes in the gap between the drum and the front of the machine causing holes and black marks. Both machines the drum fails but the heating element stays on potential fire hazzard.

British Manufacturing at it's Worst
March 31, 2006 8:44:57am
Although this rear venting appliance performs reasonably well for the money don't expect it to last too far out of the statutory warrenty period. And don't expect any help whatsoever from Indesit when it does pack up. Mine lasted 16 months before going in the skip. Sounded like a cement mixer from day 1 so don't think you're buying a quiet one.
Pros and cons by Paul Trappett
Pros: Looks ok in the slot in my kitchen. Easy to use. Cheap like most rear ventors these days.
Cons: Poorly designed linen filter system means heating element is quickly breached turning this appliance into an incediary device. Poor quality pivot bearing worn out within 18 months. No help from manufacturer if you don't subscribe to their modern day con extended warrenty.
