david smith - 23/4/2008 6:25:59pm
excessive noise on spin, overheating of dryer unit, failure of heating unit, twice, failure of thermostat, twice, fifth visit by service engineer from Hotpoint tomorrow as the dryer has packed up yet again and f13 error message displayed on the flickering and defective led display. it will wash now and finally after the weight atop the machine was fixed is less noisy than it was. wish i''''d bought something else, anything else......
Pros:
any more problems and i shall look forward to having it scrapped...
Cons:
Hotpoint customer service, surly to the point of rudeness...

WD860 or is it the WD Worst design 666
Ray - 26/3/2008 10:23:47pm
Where do you start with this machine. We bought the washing machine from Comet in August of 2006, in that time we have had 3 heater units, 4 motors, 1 presssure switch, one display panel, 3 eproms thats the memory chips and two of the boxes that the memory goes into and a total of 6 comet engineers that they gave up with the machine and wrote it off in the end as they could not rectify the F02 errors. Comet gave us back the value of the machine in "comet vouchers" but that took two weeks from the point of write off so in that time we called out Hotpoint to see if they could rectify the F02 fault afterall we had £450 comming to us and it would cost £80 for an engineer and if they could not fix the fault you get your money back. Well I must have had Hotpoints brightest engineer because as soon as he saw the error he plugged his laptop into our machine and 5 minutes later the machine was working again, it was a software code level level that was needed. Needless to say we gave the washing machine to my sister in law who loves the machine but says she cannot wash anything at night due to the loud noise the machine makes......... so far its 10 days and still working but its no longer my problem as we have bought a Miele and are very happy !
Pros:
Nice colour for our kitchen ..... white
Cons:
component failure is high, too loud for a silent machine, leaks from the soap dispenser, door does not shut properly, dirt gets in the seal of the glass door, you have to wait at least 10 days for repairs !

Worst thing I''''ve ever bought!!!
Andy - 2/3/2008 9:50:32pm
Well I bought this washer/dryer just over 12 months ago, let me tell you, If you''''re thinking of getting one, PLEAESE I URGE YOU, buy a trampoline for the kids instead. The WD860 is crap, the noise on full spin I''''m sure breaks the local by-laws, I think an ASBO is on its way. The LED display panel is a joke, looks like Blackpool Illuminations on a good day. The powder drawer is broken and when the thing is breaking the sounds barrer on full spin it gradually creeps open, which is VERY annoying. I''''ve had countless error codes H20 this and F13 and F12 that, this machine is a pile of s**t! I''''ts even started to "gargle water" which is quite horrible to be honest. Hotpoint Customer Services don''''t really give a t*ss. I wish I had gone for the washing board and mangle offer now. On a plus side, errmmm it''''s white!
Pros:
It comes up lovely with some CIF.

Hotpoint WD 860 Washer/Dryer''Top of the range'' thats what I thought?
Ben Mitchell - 20/2/2008 0:04:30am
I must admit that this machine is not all bad, as in it still does a full load of washing and drying every day and has done for the past 12 months. I have owned this machine for nearly 2 years and bought it for a number of reasons; top model, washer/dryer, looks good, has lots of nice computer controlled program features and a fancy LCD display, but most of all wanted the versatility and quality that Hotpoint claim to provide ( especially when having a new born on the way at the time of purchase). The wash cycle is very quiet, however the spin is like a jet engine at take off, and within weeks of purchase the dryer became very noisy making a loud humming, electrical buzzing ( although still works, touch wood). The main bug with my machine is that just after the main 12 month warranty ran out (typical) my LCD display started to fail, and since then has been like a blue light disco of flashing lights each time we switched it on. The display has gradually deteriorated and now we have no display at all during use ( except the odd flicker when first switched on) its like a guessing game of which program do I want, and which will I get! Hotpoint customer service in my experience has been poor with regard to this issue and that of bad noises coming from the machine with only an interest to sending an engineer out at £90 callout + parts+ this and that because its out of warranty, even if I change the faulty wf840 PCB myself it would cost £96.60 + delivery ( and I would only do this because I am an experienced electrical engineer) whats going on? Even the 5 year parts guarantee leads to expensive labour and callout fees.Surely a top machine should last longer than 13 months without major parts breaking down, or am I expecting too much? I could harp on about how disappointed I am with the machine mainly because it is supposed to be a top model and the price reflects this, but if I had wanted a cheap no frills machine I would have bought one and taken my chances and expected poor customer service at the same time.....Hotpoint what a shame as with a few modifications when designed/updated this could have been a successful product for me and many others .
Pros:
Appearance Normal wash cycle very quiet Lots of programs Touch controls and child lock.
Cons:
Noise when in spin/dry Display failure Hotpoint not interested unless charging to repair. High callout/repair costs at this age of machine

Disastrous WD860
Simon - 30/11/2007 4:33:44pm
Once again my Hotpoint has taken to displaying F13 - obviously something to do with the drying cycle (as I know from previous experience), as although it''s going through the motions it doesn''t heat up at all. It''s out of warranty so Hotpoint want a £90 call out fee (now payable up front - wonder why they introduced this...) which they will refund if the fault is the same as last time. Of the seven previous call outs most were drying related and I''ve had a number of new thermistors, even a new drying fan fitted. I''ve also experienced the smoke as a result of the drying chamber getting clogged up. All in all this machine has been a disaster and I will never buy another Hotpoint again. Is there anything I can do to resolve this myself as I really don''t want to donate another £90 to Hotpoint?
Pros:
It washes well
Cons:
Anything to do with drying. Water retention not been great either. Fundamental things to get right I''d say.

the worst machine ive had!!!!
tracey - 10/9/2007 10:32:40am
I bought my hotpoint washer/dryer in Jan 2007. This is NOT a silent machine especially when dryer (sounds like its taking off) the LCD has gone twice and the code error F-13 has now gone for the second time, this is something to do with the dryer and when this happens the machine cant be turned off by the machine it has to be done by the plug.. Hotpoint coming on friday, im asking for a new machine.....

what a waste of £499.00
Gary Hawkins - 21/5/2007 7:06:25pm
The machine is the biggest headache we have had in years and we've got teenage kids! The SUPER SILENT spin cycle denys the abilty to hold a conversation downstairs and the neighbours are starting to complain. the first engineer said there was no problem with the machine, phoned Hotpoint to say no more clowns please only to be told if another engineeer was to attend and find no fault they were to charge £30 call out, why would i call? for company. the second engineer said there was something wrong only he didnt know what! seveeral more vists and the machine in bits every time and its no better, the only consolation no error code 13, but today heralded a new noise, sound like somebody's ckuck a bag of gravel in. Anyone beeen killed by aflying drum yet?

My experience with Hotpoint Washer Dyer Ultima
Jeremy - 6/12/2006 12:04:42pm
Super silent when washing / jet engine on spin cycle. Early on we had several call outs to resolve frothy water coming out of the powder draw during a wash cycle. After several failed attempts to resolve the problem a revised spin cycle program was flashed onto the module. This has reduce the occurance but it still happens when washing towels. Last week we noticed that the dryer is no longer working. This weekend the machine started to get stuck in a continuous spin cycle until you press the cancel button. And yesterday it stopped working altogether so we now have a clothes wetting device with funky blue LED display. Theres a 10 day wait for the Engineer (I suspect they're pretty busy!)
Pros:
Nice blue LED display and easy to program and lots of clever functions (if any of it's working.) Big load capacity.
Cons:
Leaks frothy water from draw. Very noisy on spin cycle. Dryer failed. (Renowned issue) Now washing machine failed completely after 2 years light use.

5 repairs in less than a year - all dreaded F13 codes. Engineers have replaced the drying assy twice and have done lots of other things to it as well... Hotpoint don't want to know and now its in extended warranty they just want to keep repairing it. AVOID at all costs.

looks nice

Great bedside manner too ...

Follow Up ... After several weeks of arguing with our supplier (QED.uk) our washing machine failed completely. Over the weekend our 9 week old Hotpoint locked up, refusing to acknowledge any of the controls. We switched it off at the wall and restarted but still it flashes F-13 and won't even let us switch it off. It's been on for 4 days. Hotpoint came out today to investigate only, that was what I was advised by QED's customer hindrance team. So when he starts taking it apart with a view to repairing a machine I want rid of, my wife phones me and asks him to talk to me. He was very blunt, telling me what he'd been instructed to do to OUR machine, with no option to stop him. After trying to explain the situation, he passes the phone back to my wife and ignores me. HOTPOINT'S ENGINEER HAS JUST TAMPERED WITH MY MACHINE AGAINST MY WISHES. DO YOURSELF A FAVOUR - NEVER BUY A HOTPOINT ANYTHING !

This is my second report. My washer Dryer has totally died. The engineer told me these were the worst machines he has ever had to work on . He has worked on quite a few. But credit to Hotpoint , they are delivering me a new machine tomorrow as a replacement( Hotpoint of course although a more efficient one. Lets hope I can write a better report for this one.

Its GONE & Hotpoint customer service has been excellent

Whata heap of horse dung !!!! - DO NOT BUY - 2 weeks old
Michael - 18/10/2006 7:36:39pm
This machine was recommended to me by the shop .Quick delivery but that''''s where the story ends . Machine does not stop when reaches end of program , 90 second door delay tends to be more like 5 minutes - when it can be bothered & now i''''ve been hit with the draeded F13 error code & smoke from the dispenser.I''''ve been told this is due to too much fluff in the condenser.Sorry i thought the machine was supposed to dry clothes as well. Oh , I forgot to mention the machine is only 2 weeks old..need i say more. Ps , just found another error code F2 , look forward to another engineers visit........
Pros:
Pretty Blue display that glows in the dark - my grandaughter loves this but she is 0nly 8wks old & not started to do her own laundry yet.

Not just a bad batch then ...
Robin - 5/10/2006 10:07:19pm
Had this machine six weeks. Never managed to dry a bath towel with it (even after 2.5 hours of drying time). Had two faults, both unlisted in the manual ... the second was the dreaded F-13 - which seems to be the condenser blocked with fluff. Second time it happened, none of the controls would work ... it had to be switched off at the wall. The wash has been good, and quiet ... but the controls are awful and very hard to understand. There are 21 buttons to operate this machine, which is about 15 more than it realistically needs. Wish I'd followed my parents in buying a Zanussi. Avoid Hotpoint like the plague.
Pros:
Pretty blue screen.
Cons:
Drying. Complicated controls.

Hotpoint WD860 Faults
Dean Baker - 30/8/2006 10:25:35pm
Having now had 18 months of continual breakdowns, replacement circuit boards, 4 new dryer modules, machine saying finished but still full of water ! Great when opening the door to Hawai 5 O all over the kitchen!! F13, F2, Fin Hell. Hotpoint washed hands of machine, exttended waranty covering machine but having to take half a day every three to five weeks is no fun. Know all the local engineers by name, John, Keith, Kev, they say its a mix of parts bins Ariston, Indesit and Hotpoint none of which were designed for each other. Buy one at your cost !! Gave up an Zanusi which lasted 8 years no trouble for this heap of C**P. DO NOT BUY

just had ours fixed yesterda with smoke coming from the top of the machine, enginer says it was due to a buidl up of fuff on the motor, funny that we have only had the machine 3 months. and to top it of it has broke within less than 2hrs of being fixed with and givin us the code f-13. we bought hotpoint becasue if had a good reputation, after having so many problems in the past with indisit, seems its the same company. My advice dont bout it, it looks grteat it sounds great the reality is i woukd not leave this washing machin on and leave the house for fear of having now house to retune to and a fireman saying sorry mate the fire started with the fluff. AVOID AVOID AVOID this machine

Not the best....
G Edwards - 27/7/2006 10:21:80pm
Silent ? No chance - infact quite the reverse. At this spin speed I can still hear it through two doors and the neighbours downstairs complain about the noise ! Failed twice... both on the dryer. Washes really well - but to be honest I'm now reverting to a stand alone dryer because in this instance its pathetic....

Avoid this machine at all costs! super silent what a joke, i'd need 3 or 4 arms to stop everything shaking of my kitchen worktop,. have used the dryer 5 times then packed up, replaced dryer unit, then when we used it , it became so hot it cracked the glass door, blamed us of course!. now when it spins it sounds like im spinning bricks in it, should have bought a concrete mixer it would have been quieter and more reliable , van man does'nt know wants wrong with it, a loose clip was his first suggestion, USELESS do not buy

Hotpoint WD860 Washer
David Walker - 13/12/2005 10:45:13am
We got a hotpoint WD860 about 3 months ago and already it has broken down will the Error code F13/F2/F8 and loads of others codes engineers came 3 times replaced the motor the pressure sensors, eprom new contoller unit. In the end they have replaced the whole machine, dont hold much hope in this one lasting long. Other than that when it works its a very good machine, but is has only done a few washes for us, the laundrate machine has done more loads that the hotpoint machine has.
