Hoover DM4523 Bagless Upright
User Reviews of the Hoover DM4523 Bagless Upright Vacuum Cleaner

We purchased the One pet Vacuum cleaner just over 12 months ago.It seems to have all the faults that are mentioned above over heats and cuts out after 20minutes then we have to wait untill it cools down to use it again,Then the carpet button would not work .We had the hoover repair man out to this one 4 time,in the end the hoover repair man finally decided it needed replacing, after we recieved the 2nd new Vacuum cleaner same fault the carpet button would not work and the motor over heated again the repair man said i dont believe this we dont have these faults normally (yea right)so he replaced the motor said we should be ok now ,guess what same fault still over heats and cuts out.So now i am going to ask for my money back after all these hoovers are not cheap.

As the other reviewers described, this machine ( Model DM4523) looses vacuum, overheats and then cuts out. The reason for this is that the two filters at the top of the dust container get clogged with dirt stopping the air flow. I might expect this to happen if the dust box is allowed to overfill however on my machine there is hardly any dirt in the bottom of the box while the channel to the top filter is completely choked. There is no cyclonic action, only heavier dirt and grit collect in the box while all the fluff goes straight to the sponge filter. The very fine dirt also bypasses the box and is collected in the second filter, that''s the corrugated paper one in the plastic housing that holds the sponge filter.
The design engineering responsible for this equipment have missed out the test phase as the unit fails to fulfill its purpose as a vacuum cleaner.
I bought a new one from a different manufacturer who seems to know what is required ie minimum attention.
Pros:
Easy access to the dust box for emptying.
I have my own cleaner for the car as it''s useless for the house.
Cons:
Does not work as a vacuum cleaner.
Another blow to the Company reputation.
I expect better of a "Hoover"
We have had our Hoover dm4523 for approx 9mths now and at first it would cut out after 10mins of working but i just put that down to the motor beding in (as this used to happen on our previous Hoover). But after the vacuum being about 4-5 weeks old it started working correctly and never cut out during use and now all of a sudden in the last few weeks it has started cutting out again but after only 5mins use. How in the hell do you expect to get the work done, in shift paterns maybe?
Pros:
economical on electricity because it doesn''t always work!
Cons:
Handle slips out of you hand.
Forever cleaning out the filter and waist container.
Topples over when using the flexable hose.
should have rubber buffers round the bottom edges of the vacuum, so as not to damage the furniture.

This really is an ABSOLLUTE disgrace of a hoover. Every purchaser should be offered a refund. The hoover overheats within minutes of use (even with a clean filter) and then won''t switch on for 20 minutes. It can take you all day to clean your house!!!!! The dust bin is too small and always needs emptying (which also causes the hoover to cut out, no surprise there eh and it tips over whenever you use the tools. No use when you have long hair as the hairs wind around the filter which.....yes you guessed it causes the motor to overheat and switch off!!!!!
An absolute total and utter waste of money. I''m working on a refund as we speak!
Pros:
Absolutely NOTHING
Cons:
Motor overheats within minutes
I''ve had nothing but problems with this machine!! Don''t buy one.
I haven''t made it round the house yet without it cutting out. I think 6 minutes is the longest it cleaned for (if you can call it cleaning). The filters are always blocked, the dust doesn''t make it into the dust collector it gets stuck on the way in the tubes, it falls over all the time, it smells when you clean the filters. Generally a waste of time. A Hoover engineer came and drilled holes in the machine to help the air circulate, but it still cuts out just as much.
I am now using my old Henry and have taken the Hoover back to the shop and left it with them. I have asked for a full refund as this vacuum is ''not fit for purpose''!
Pros:
Absolutley nothing
Cons:
cuts out after 3 minutes
filters block after one use
falls over
This Hoover is utter Rubbish, it has gone through 6 belts, and just over 12 months old has packed up completly. The plastics are very cheap and nasty, the tools fell off on my wifes foot the power cable is in a dangerous position and the handle release came off. Went back to Dealer on several occasions, but was told the belts are not covered by the warranty, takes 4 weeks for them to be delivered. Did not pay cheap for this vacuum cleaner, back to using our 7 year old LG again, wish I had kept to this brand. DON''T BUY HOOVER

I wish I''d read all these reviews before I bought this hoover - What a waste of time. It cuts out all the time, it stinks once you wash the filter, totally unfit for purpose. I have spoken several times to Hoover, they just said that I needed to wash the filter out more frequently. They implied that it was ''my fault'' that the hoover just doesn''t work.#
Don''t buy this hoover!
Dont buy The One pet Vacuum upright cleaner Model Num H1PET001

Pros:
None
Cons:
To heavy, difficult to carry falls over when using the flexi pipe. Not worth the money
I know this is a slightly different model but seems to be the same one as reviewed below. Mine is the Hoover upright dustmanager especially for pet hairs. DM4497
I bought this in January of 2006
The noise from it is unbearable
It barely holds any waste at all, you have to change the cylinder after each room
The stuff picked up just clogs the filter
Weighs a ton to move and lift
The actually shape and design is the worst ever. It is back heavy and even when you take a lot of the attachments off, it dosnt make much difference and is still too heavy at the back.
The reason I am writing this is because due to the last point above the hoover has just once again fallen backwards but this time taken out a lovely statue that I had and I am furious
DONT BUY THIS AWFUL HOOVER. Wished I had looked on here first :-(
Pros:
none
Cons:
noise/balance/cylinder capacity/weighs an absolute ton

I wish I'd found this site before I bought one. I am about to take mine back for a refund. I wondered why they didn't argue when I phoned and asked for my money back. I bought it because it said it was good for pet hairs and I am utterly sick of picking the mess out of the filter as none of it goes into the jug bit at all. My last Hoover was excellent but blew up a couple of weeks ago after 7 years and I am so sad to see the company have produced such a poor range.
What a load of rubbish this vacuum cleaner is!. You can only vacuum for up to 20 minutes at the most before it cuts out and then have to wait another 20 minutes to use it agian. The manual instructs you to clean the filters excetra but on doing this it made the vacuum smell of, what i can only describe as 'maggots from a bait shop!'. My husband blamed my shoulder length hair for clogging it up but i'm sure a majority of hosehold users have average hair length, so what was the point in making this model!
Pros:
light weight
Cons:
cutting out clogging up smell once filters were cleaned
What a load of rubbish this vacuum cleaner is. Bought in May, been repaired twice already. Its easier to go round on hands and knees to pick bits up because the vacuum cleaner just glides over them. Dust bag has to be emptied every time the machine is used and is constantly clogging up. Dread to think how it would cope if we had any pets shedding hair. Wish I'd bought a Dyson!
Pros:
Nothing good to say about it, what a waste of money.
Cons:
Everything!

Don't waste your money on this total pile of rubbish.
Overheats with anything other than very light and quick cleaning and then takes 20 minutes to reset.
Clogs up after just minutes. Do not expect this cleaner to pick up pet hairs for anything other than a few minutes after which it's filter clogs and suction is all but lost.
Flimsy plastic build. Pedal release button snaps.
Hoover fail to even acknowledge any complaints made to them.
Oh for my old Dyson DC1
Pros:
none
Cons:
Overheating, filter clogging after a few minutes use.
Having owned this hoover for 3 months I'm still finding it hard to get used to. Suction is poor for cleaning the kitchen floor - even on the 'hard floor' setting. Suction very good for carpets except after about 5 minutes it gets blocked and the cyclonic filter needs emptying. It is recommended that you wash the filter after emtying 5 times but is hard to get clean under running water, takes forever to dry and ends up smelly! I wish I had stuck with Dyson.
